Description of 1923 Other Makes |
1923 Briggs & Stratton Flyer No title - sold on Bill-of-sale only The one-cylinder motor wheel that powers this little car was produced by Briggs & Stratton from 1919 to 1925. They motors where mostly mounted on bicycles but they also could be mounted on a purpose made scooter and buckboard called a Flyer. This Flyer with serial number 2069 dates to 1923. The wood appears to a have been remade some time, including new seats. The metal parts are in amazing condition with a full set of factory wheels, now fitted with hard rubber tires, and a full set of fenders. The only thing missing from the Flyer is a compression release handle (they are impossible to find). The paint is decent, good enough you could leave it as is but the metal would be easy to refinish if you want a show piece. The motor with serial number 4638 was shipped by the factory on April 30, 1920 to a department store in New York City. When I found this motor it was missing a gas tank but I located this tank that was made in the 1990's as a real well done replica tank. I installed a new tire on the drive wheel and reproduction gas cap. The motor is still missing an exhaust pipe and correct cooling fan. The motor does not run but does have compression. It probably needs the magneto worked over. These are hard to find and even harder to find this complete and correct. I have been collecting these for 40 years and have all the technical info to assist a buyer if they want to restore it or just get it running. I have too many projects to invest time into this one.
