1966 Pontiac GTO 4-Speed 400 Ram Air IV V8 A/C 12-Bolt Rear Excel. Cond.

Description: Beautifully detailed 1966 Pontiac GTO that had a complete frame-off build during the early 1990’s and was a winning I.S.C.A. (International Show Car Association) show car during the 1990’s and 2000’s is now for sale through the owner’s estate.

This is not a numbers matching car but a “real” GTO which has had some nice upgrades including a 1968 400 cu.in. engine with Ram Air IV heads, and 12-bolt rear differential. It is a great representation of a by-gone era when Detroit was turning out factory muscle cars.

Total mileage since the rebuild is estimated at 10,000. The GTO starts easily and is a strong performer.

Body & Paint:

Build is believed to have started with a rust-free body, taken off of the frame, stripped, and painted on a rotisserie in “Nancy Dana” red 2-stage urethane.

All the glass, chrome, weather stripping, and trim were either re-plated or replaced to bring the car up to “show car” standards.

Engine & Transmission:

Rebuilt 1968 400 c.i. using Pontiac Ram Air IV cylinder heads and exhaust manifolds.

Camshaft is believed to be a Ram Air IV item too.

The recently rebuilt carburetors are part of the era correct 3 x 2-barrel option which was available on the 1966 Pontiac GTO. A noted change is an electric choke.

The rebuilt M-20 wide ratio Muncie 4-speed is mated to a Hurst Competition Plus shifter with Line-Lock.

Rebuilt stock clutch pack assembly including flywheel.

Chassis & Differential:

The frame was stripped and painted gloss black with all new suspension parts including springs, bushings, and bearings. The brakes are power drums.

The 12-Bolt rear differential with sway bar houses 3.73:1 (posi-traction) gears with a gold anodized cover.

Old style Lakewood traction bars were added.

The tires are Kelly Springfield radials measuring P215/70R/15 up front and 255/50/15 on the rear. They are dated 2015. Wheels are Weld Pro Star with Pontiac center caps.

Interior:

The interior was left stock and is still in good condition. The carpeting shows a little wear on the driver’s side, but otherwise is in excellent condition.

The factory A/C did work when the car was built but was never converted to R134a.

The factory gauges and dash indicators all function including the clock.

Windows crank up and down easily and new felt was added.
