Description of 1939 Packard

1939 Packard Super 8 model 1705 Limousine, 148 inch wheelbase, 320 cid engine with overdrive. Has 97,282 original miles and comes with a clear Massachusetts title. Presently not running but, engine turns freely when using a strap wrench on the crankshaft pulley. Last running according to written documentation was 2-22-76. I purchased the Packard in 2015 and had it shipped from California. Still has the original California plates with registration decal showing 1974. Most of the car is in primer and is just as I received it in 2015. A previous owner had removed most of the original black paint and primed but was never completed. I don't believe any further restoration was done. I have too many other projects needing my attention and will never get to this one.It will need a complete restoration. It's a solid California car with most panels being very straight with the exception of the two front fenders, especially the left front but, both will need bodywork done on them. They have dents and rust but nothing that can't be repaired. The side mount fender wells are really nice however, I did find a few tiny pin holes only in the drivers side very bottom of well. Floors and rocker panels are completely solid. The underneath of the car still has just about all it's original undercoating still on it. There are also some dents just below the trunk lid on the lower left side. The trunk is locked and cannot be opened as I do not have the key for it. I have the ignition and glove box keys only. The Packard has some unique features like a three speed transmission with overdrive, banjo type steering wheel with horn ring, glove box mounted clock, dictagraph with microphone to communicate with the chauffeur, rear floor mounted heater, cormorant hood ornament and at one time had a front heater but, is now missing. I was able to find an original rear 8 day Jaeger clock which mounts in the upper part of the partition which I will include in the sale. I put two new Firestone whitewall tires on the front and one new blackwall and one very nice used blackwall tire on the rear so now adding air every two days is no longer required. Any questions or if you need photos of anything in particular let me know and I will respond. The winner of this auction will have five days to pay in full. Payment can be certified bank check but, will have to clear before car is released, electronic bank wire transfer, or cash in person. Please do not bid on this car if you do not have the immediate funds to make payment!! Car must be picked up within two weeks of auction close or if more time is needed you will need to contact me. The car has been in inside storage the whole time it's been in my possession and will remain inside until it is picked up.
