Description of 1964 Ford Galaxie

This is an original 1964 Ford Galaxie 500 XL 4 Door Hardtop, equipped with a Z-code 300H.P. big block 390 V-8. But of course, its the code-5 factory 4-speed manual transmission that really makes this old Galaxie stand out. One of probably only a handful of factory 4-speed 4 Door Galaxies produced in '64, this was no doubt a special order vehicle. With only 3 owners since new, this neat '64 Galaxie has had the good fortune to survive in very original, un-restored condition. Besides the XL equipment, which includes bucket seats and console, car is nicely optioned with power steering, factory Select-Aire air conditioning, factory AM/FM radio, and factory seat belts(front). Built on Jan. 10, 1964 at the Los Angeles assembly plant, this Galaxie was then purchased new at Les Arkenberg Ford in Gardena, CA, on Jan.14, 1964. Car presumably spent its early life in southern California, but by the 1980's it was in Arizona. An Indiana collector purchased this car from the original owner's widow in 1984. During the 40 years here in Indiana, this Galaxie has had dry inside storage, and has been kept in running condition, but rarely driven. Mileage on speedo shows 31,000(believed to be 131,000mi.). Originating in the dry southwest US, as expected, no rust out has been observed, although under carriage does have a fine patina of surface rust. Overall, body is very straight, but there is some slight damage on LH rear quarter(see pics), and a small bend on trunk lid from an old C.B. antenna(see pics). Car had one re-paint about 50 years ago. Pretty nice appearance from 20 feet, but examined closely, paint has numerous small chips, scratches, and touch-ups, a reflection of the car's days as a daily transportation vehicle. Also note, while rocker panels are solid, the bottom of the RH rocker has old curb damage and some surface body filler(see close-up pic). Original bumpers are shiney and solid, but have small blemishes and imperfections viewed up close. Glass is good. Original interior is very presentable. Door panels are nice. Seat upholstery is good, but driver's bucket has some tears(see pic). Dash pad has some cracks(see pics). Original carpet in place, but shows wear. Car has stock exhaust. Original jack in place in trunk. Car has its five original 14x6 wheels, along with a nice set of original accessory wire wheel covers. Older radial tires are low mileage, and still look good. Brakes were re-done(with silicone brake fluid), and a new gas tank was installed, both about 10 years ago. Battery is new. Car seems to run and drive good, but due to long storage, should probably be hauled home. Selling NO RESERVE. Clear title in my name. As stated, this an un-restored vehicle. Even though it is in great condition for its age, car does show various imperfections, blems, and wear, from use as an everyday car back in the day. I have tried to describe any obvious defects, but please ask if you have any questions. For additional info, or to view car, please email or call Karl 463-269-7675. Car located in Indianapolis, IN 46217. Certainly a very unusual old Galaxie, so, you may never see another one like it again.
