Description of 1974 Other Makes Jensen Healey |
This 1974 Jensen Healey is in great shape and is a wonderful driver. This is the second 1974 JH I’ve owned. I sold the first several years ago and always regretted it as it was such a great car and was in exceptional condition. Long story short. I tried to buy it back two years ago. but found it had been totaled! So I kept my eyes open for another one over the last two years and this is the best I came across. Clean bodied. red painted. JHs don't come up very often and that was my criteria. I drive the car a couple times a week. but have made the decision to sell it as I’m in the middle of restoring a building (commercial building from 1858 that will be a work/live space for my wife and I) and I’ve decided to put the money towards that right now rather than have the car sit in the garage waiting for me to restore it completely someday. I’m basically going to turn this car into a refrigerator for my building… It is mind boggling to think a refrigerator costs as much as this car. but that’s the world I’m living in. As I understand it this car spent most of its life in California before being moved to Arkansas. I purchased it from the daughter of the owner in Arkansas (she lives in Tennessee) and I drove the car back to Indiana without so much as a hiccup. This Jensen Healey drives like a champ. Lotus 907 motors are delightful and this one is no exception. It starts no problem (choke required if the engine is not warmed up. no choke if it is warmed up). It accelerates nicely (not a super fast car. but mix the acceleration with that wonderful sound and you’ve got an excellent driving experience). This JH has the 4 speed transmission and it shifts through the gears smoothly. The engine has 10. 28 miles on it since a rebuild (prior to my purchase). Total miles on the chassis are unknown - the odometer was reset when the engine was rebuilt (sorry. I don’t have further details on why that was done - title states ODO Exempt). I’ve included a short video of the car starting and being driven as well. This JH isn’t perfect. but it is a perfect starting point for an easy restoration to have a perfect Jensen Healey or just drive it as-is and enjoy. There are no major body issues - just a couple of small dings. a couple paint chips/cracks and one very small area with a couple of rust bubbles. I’ve point those areas out in the photos. The soft top is in great shape as-is the flannel indoor car cover (JH specific from Delta) and tonneau cover. The top boot cover is in decent shape. It is missing 2 hooks though so I’ve just got it laying over the top in the images - it isn’t securely fastened. This auction also includes a fairly rare fiberglass hard top with glass rear window. I’ve actually never installed this on the car. but it is in great shape besides a crack on the inside (doesn't go through to the outside) and will be included with the car incase the next owners wants to utilize it. The interior is similar to the exterior. It presents very well. but it isn’t perfect. A seam in the passenger seat has come undone. the rubber floor mats are a bit worn out (especially the drivers) and the seat belts could use a refurb. There are other little odds and ends that could use some attention. but it is completely useable as-is. The Smiths gauges are all in great shape and perfect working order. All the interior and exterior lights work as does the heater fan. radio. parking brake light and even the interior “dome” light on the passenger door. The only item that doesn’t work is the clock. which is pretty standard on JHs unfortunately. I’ve also included an image of the floorpan on the passenger side. It has some rust bubbles. but is still completely solid. A lot of JH’s look like a Flintstones mobile by now. I didn’t want to have to deal with cutting it out and re-welding so I made sure to get a solid one. The driver’s side is in the same condition. This car has some aftermarket additions such as the roll bar. exhaust. sway bars. AM/FM/Tape player. fuel tank. etc… I also have a hand made aluminum tank that is the same shape as the original tank that can be included in the sale for an additional $350. Let me know if you want to see images of it. Please let me know if you have any questions - I’m happy to address them as best I can. I do suggest you come see the vehicle in person prior to bidding as it is a vintage automobile and images likely won’t convey the exact condition of every inch of the vehicle. This Jensen Healey is being sold as-is by a private individual and I have the clear title in hand. Full payment is due within 36 hours of the auction end via wire transfer (I’ll send you my bank details as soon as the auction ends). I will provide you with one set of keys. the Jensen Healey. a bill of sale and a signed over title when you come to pick this car up. Car must be picked up within 2 weeks of the auction end. I’m very flexible on time so you can decide the date/time that works best for you. Shipping is okay. but you will be responsible for all arrangements and associated expenses. I can be present as necessary for the shipping company to pickup this Jensen Healey. Watch the video in HD: https://vimeo. com/112601846 |
