Description of 1950 Packard Series 2301 |
I have owned this 1950 Packard Eight Deluxe for 17 years, uying it shortly after I retired as the automotive columnist at The New York Times. I acquired it from an elderly lawyer who received it as payment for probating the original owner's estate. At the time, t had very few miles on the odometer, nd it still has traveled only 28,589 miles! The original paint needed a re-do, nd I had the car professionally painted in 2000. Since then, t has always been garaged, nd the spectacular blue paint (a near match for an original factory hue) is still perfect! The undercarriage also was sandblasted and painted, nd the gas tank was cleaned and sealed at the same time. The chrome and stainless also were redone and the trim glistens as it should. Coker wide whites grace the wheels. Maintenance (brakes, xhaust, tc.) has been performed as needed. The Packard's 288-cubic-inch straight eight starts right up and hums a pretty tune. The transmission is manual, ith a three-on-the-tree chrome shifter. I have offered a bunch of pictures, nd they include the original bill of sale, hich shows that the Golden Anniversary sedan had just two options, heater and seat covers. The covers are now gone, ut through the years they kept the original mohair upholstery in pristine condition. I bought a radio for the car and installed it several years ago, ut I never got around to mounting an antenna, o that still needs doing. The lights, auges and controls all work, lthough the clock does not. And while we're talking about it, he dash is a masterpiece of wood-graining on steel, andcrafted at the factory in Detroit. You are welcome to see this 65-year-old survivor here in Pennsylvania's Pocono Mountains, ust off Interstate 80. Also, he car is advertised on the Packard Club's website. If it sells there, e reserve the right to cancel this ad. The winning bidder will be required to send a $500 nonrefundable deposit via PayPal within 48 hours of the end of the auction.
