Description of 1936 Packard 1407 5 Passenger Sedan |
I purchased this carwith the intent of preparing it for touring. I installed an overdrive, leaned and upgraded all the mechanical systems, nd returned it to the smooth running and driving car it was when new. I didn't want to paint it as theoriginalpaint is in decent shape and there isvirtually no rust. It is one of only 5, passenger 14 series sedansmanufactured in 1936. It was the last year for mechanical brakes which stop it very well with power assist, o worries about wheel cylinder leaks or flushing brake fluid if you don't drive it for a while. I purchased a Packard heater for it but never installed it. The radio is in place but I have not tried to use it. All wiring is good in the front, ear passenger compartment wiringneeds to be redone. There is no vapor locking even at the 8,000 foot altitude where I live. Theodometer works and I believe the mileage to be actual. This Packard has a nice original patina to the paint and interior. The previous owner had all the brightworkreplated except for the radiator grill shutters. He also had all the woodwork refinished and it is beautifully done. He became unable to finish the work and had to go into a nursing home and I purchased the car from a friend of his. I believe he intended to paint it maroon as thehubcaps are all maroonand nicely striped, nd all the Packard 12 emblems are in great shape on the wheels. He had dementia so I was unable to learn hisintentions for the car. When I got the car it had not run for a while and we have serviced every system on the car including:- Lloyd Young overdrive installed on front of differential for effortless touring- new radial wide white wall tires fitted and one spare included in the sale- carburetor rebuilt- radiator removed, oiled outand rodded, ainted and reinstalled- Pines Automatic Winterfront (radiator shutters) removed and rebuild and all shutters freed up and lubricated- water pump repacked- all new hoses and Gano coolant filters.- electric fuel pump installed- new 6 volt Optima battery installed- fuel tank cleaned out and new gas tank sender installed- oil pan removed and cleaned- oil cooler removed and flushed- brake and clutch vacuum assist diaphragms replaced- brakesinspected and rebuilt where required, heel bearings inspected and packed- new exhaust system- clutch inspected and found in good shape- spark plugs and wires replaced- new pedal pads installed- top fabric insert sealed with proper material I have not repaired the horn and wipers sothey do not currently function. The car drives very well, ll the gauges function, nd it runs cool even at our altitude and mountainous terrain. My interests have led me away from touring a classic so I am selling the car. The work was all done by professional mechanics in our restoration shop. See reliancefiremuseum.org to see the quality of our work. I drove it for an hour today with no problems whatsoever.
