Description of 1932 Packard Model 902 Coupe Roadster |
1932 Packard 902 Roadster Coupe, body style 509.
Packard introduced a new lineup in 1932, with only 972 built and few were body style 509, for sure! It was longer, lower, faster and more refined than previous models, due in part to the double drop frame. It was one of the prettiest designs of the era. The new top design allowed it to fold flat to the body.
The 319.2-cid Standard Eight inline engine was modified with a redesigned manifold and fan. An increase in compression ratio to 6.0:1 produced 110 horsepower. Noise and vibration was improved thanks to a redesigned air cleaner; the driveshaft being jointed and rubber-mounted, and the fitting of new rubber engine mounts. The lengthened chassis was redesigned, as were the components.
This Packard was owned by the same family for over five decades. In 2013, the renowned, Al Prueitt restored the complete interior, top, carpets, rumble seat and the dash was removed along with the engine and transmission to be totally rebuilt as new. Wiring was all replaced in the engine bay and dash area. Advanced Color Tech, Inc. did a frame-off repainting to a beautiful two-tone hunter green/midnight clover finish with gold pin stripes. The chrome was replaced, completing the restoration.
The car looks like it just came off the assembly line. The dark green is almost black. It would be hard to find a more honest 902 coupe roadster. This is an automobile that you will be proud to own, enjoy driving and love to show at classic car events.
