Description of 1983 Peugeot 505 |
This 1983 Peugeot 505 has 159,730 original miles. Engine is a 4 cylinder turbo diesel with 5 speed manual transmission, shifts fine in all gears. The engine starts easily and runs fine, but the battery is worn out, so it often needs a jump to start. The original owner bought this car new in California in 1983. He had the engine rebuilt in 1995, at about 145,000 miles, so it has only been driven about 15,000 miles since the rebuild. I have paper receipts for the work done. In the late 90's he moved to Iowa and used the car there. I am the second owner, and bought the car from him, in Iowa, in 2006. We drove it for that summer, and since then the car has been kept in my dry indoor storage building since I bought it. I have a Minnesota title in my name, but car has not been licensed or driven on the roads for many years. I do start and drive it around very often on my rural property to keep things working and it runs fine. My plan had been to restore it when I retired, but things have changed and I don't think I will ever get to it. You will need to TRAILER the car home, or have it PICKED UP by a transport company, for the following reasons: Brakes need lots of pressure on the pedal to stop, I think the brake booster is bad. Brakes also have a slight drag, some calipers may not be releasing fully. The tires, altho having lots of tread, are old and may not be safe for driving any distance. Sale includes a box of parts with oil filters, new front wind deflector for sunroof, and numerous other items. I also have the original owner's manual and some sales literature. The body areas rusted thru include several small holes in the sunroof, and also the dog leg areas behind each rear door. Other rusted spots seen on the pics are mainly surface rust. Seats are in great shape, except for outer sides of front seat backs as shown in pics, cloth is not ripped but the thread has come unsewn. Radio antenna shaft is broken off. Trunk cloth lining was removed and washed after there was a diesel spill in the trunk, it needs to be re-installed. Not sure if the fuel gauge works, I only add a couple gallons of diesel at a time, as I don't want the fuel to go stale, and it barely goes over empty. Car must be paid for at end of auction, but I can store it for a month or two with no problem. As I am not always here and available due to work, pickup will need to be done at a PRE-ARRANGED time that works for both of us. Buyer must make all arrangements and pay all costs for pick-up or shipping. Car is being sold as-is, no warranty. Sale open only to US residents, I am unable to sell to anyone outside of the US. Please email me thru ebay if you have any questions, or want more pics of any certain area of the car, etc. In-person inspection is fine if you live nearby, email me thru ebay if you wish to see the car in person. NOTE: Numerous people have been emailing me about dents they seem to see on the passenger side of the car. Actually there are no dents. I think what you are seeing are shadows from tree branches above the car, and reflections from the metal building next to the car. If you would like additional & better photos, just email me thru the ebay question service and I will send them to you. |
