In 1965, hrysler full-size cars made a comeback[7]and the full-size Plymouth line included three special Furys: the Fury I, ury II, nd Fury III. The Fury I was marketed to police and taxi fleets, s a basic full-sized car, hile the Fury II and Fury III offered more trim and features. Full size Furys had options such asautomatic transmission, power steering, hite sidewall tires (along with full wheel covers),stereoradios, vinyl tops, ndair conditioning.[citation needed]Above the Fury III, as the Sport Fury. As before, his was Plymouth's entry into the full-size "sporty car" market, ompeting directly with theChevrolet ImpalaSuper Sport andFord Galaxie 500/XL. As such, t offered a sportier interior and exterior trim package, long with performance options such as heavy-duty suspension and an array of big-block V8 engines. The overall design changed, ith the grille losing chrome but gaining two vertical stacked headlights on each side. All new Furys got a new 119in (3,000mm) wheelbase (121in (3,100mm) for the wagons)—1in (25mm) longer than before. The 426 "Street Wedge" V8 was introduced, ated at 385hp (287kW) but finally street-legal.[1] The 1966 Furys kept the same profile as the '65s, ith a split front and rear grill motif. For 1967, owever, he body was restyled with a sharp, ngular profile. The stacked quad headlight bezels were curvier and set more deeply into the body, iving the car a more muscular look. The rooflines had sharper angles and gave the car a longer, ore luxurious appearance. A new, ormal two-door hardtop body style appeared which featured smaller rear quarter windows and a wider, ack-slanted "C" pillar. Called the "fast top," it was offered alongside the restyled thin "C" pillar hardtop in both VIP and Sport Fury series (as well as on corresponding big Dodge models). 1967 was the year which introduced significant US-Government safety regulations, hich meant that for the first time, ll Plymouths got a new dual-circuit brake master cylinder, n energy-absorbing steering column and wheel, ecessed instrument panel controls, nd shoulder belt mounting points for outboard front seat occupants. Still, he age of "all vinyl" hadn't arrived, nd the '67 Fury's interior had plenty of chrome trim to decorate the instrument and door panels. |
