My personal collection of cars is eclectic to say the least; varying from Corvettes of the 50’s & 60’s to Porsche’s from several decades, fabulous CJ5 to a unique 55 Nash Rambler Cross Country Wagon and a ’60 Pontiac Bonneville. My collection of cars all have a couple of things in common. One, hey all come from dry California and they are all “survivors”. Those two things are my personal collecting mantra and has been for the last 30 years. My cars are seldom for sale as I believe they are all nearly impossible to replicate; each one a tribute to time and the unique people that owned them along the way, ncluding my seemingly AR self. I have been a car guy since probably the first time my eyes and brain connected on a car. Maybe it was lying in the back window of a 1955 Chrysler 300 flying down the runway in Presque Isle, aine, s my fighter pilot Father took on all comers every Saturday Night on the runway at the airbase. Really cool cars have chronicled my life from a very early stage. This beautiful and RARE Plymouth is incredible. These real deal Business Coupes in Special Deluxe trim offers great upside potential and a really fun car to own and drive. Less than 1.5% of the P15’s built between 1946-1949 were the fastback Business Coupe and the reason you never see them. This is a true unrestored survivor with totally original paint on the exterior and mostly original interior with the exception being the seat; reupholstered about five years ago. The Flathead 6-cylinder with 3 speed manual and working over-drive is the motor that came with this car from the factory . Starts, hifts, dles and runs flawlessly. This little Plym started its early life in Northern CA, hen the family moved to the South Orange County area. I got the car from a good friend who needed some cash for a business a few years ago. The car belonged to his Grandfather who bought it new and was the only owner until my friend got it and passed it on to me. My friend was suppose to buy it back in less than a year, ut that was five years ago and my collection is getting out of hand and several cars must go. What is truly unique about this car is the amazing rust free never-hit body and the character of the patina. It is just uniformly clean and unique. It wears its 69 years on its sleeve better than any I have personally ever seen from this era. My good friend (the Grandson) lightly customized the car by lowering the body a few inches, sing drop spindles on the front. Some really cool wheels and white-walls and a set of vintage-styled mirrors give it a touch of hot-rod, at-rod look. The bulky and heavy bumpers were replaced with some lighter weight and cleaner looking new style. Also note the rare hood ornament and rear light on the trunk with the Plymouth Ship emblem moulded in to the glass. What a great look. I also have the original hubcaps which are in excellent shape and could be easily modified to fit these wheels. Lights, witches, nd gauges all work on this rolling work of art. Notice the awesome bakelite knobs which are in flawless condition on the interior. Take a look at the character of all the trim parts that are original to this car. They have an Art Deco look and feel to them and the quality of all these parts is a testament to how well these cars were built. I love this car with its visor and cool fastback look. This collector car is uncut and unmolested. Carb rebuilt, ew plugs and wires. Stainless trim is all original. All doors work, ll locks work. Body & Paint The Body and Paint on this 47 Business Coupe is all original. The only thing on the car that is not original is the driver’s side rear quarter panel. It has been painted to closely match the original paint on the rest of the car, t is slightly off in color and someone could probably match it better, ut it looks really cool just like it is and adds to the overall patina on the car. You just never see original paint on a car like this, specially in the door jams and trunk areas. The paint is solid and I have “sealed” it in a clear Turtle Wax Product. Truthfully, t very rarely sees the light of day and you would want to keep this car in a dry storage with a nice soft cover. I cannot really describe the paint color on this car very well… some people say it is gray, ut it is not totally gray, t almost has a putty type of feel to it and changes in different lighting conditions. All I know is it looks RIGHT on this body. The heavy gauge and solid doors close perfectly when released from six inches by just releasing the door, o push, ust a release. Closing the doors elicits a “click-thunk” that is just the most wonderful sound of quality. These true Fastback designed Business Coupes are a rare find. You will find plenty of Club Coupes out there, here the top hooks into the rear trunk and there is a line that delineates the top. Those cars are similar but NOT this car. No, his IS a FASTBACK design and you rarely if ever see them (think 40 Ford Coupe). Interior Almost completely original from the factory the Interior is in phenomenal shape for 69 years old. The door panels and headliner are all original, s are the rubber matting on the floors (although cracked). The Dash is all original simulated wood finish. The Chromed Radio finish is original and untouched. All the Bakelite Knobs are original and in near mint condition. The Steering Wheel is completely original as is the paint on the steering column and on the heater. The door handles are all original and in simply gorgeous condition. The only thing done to the interior was the recovering of the seat to a very high-grade broadcloth type material. Make sure you take a look at the gorgeous door handles and windows winders with the perfect bakelite pieces underneath. There are no cracks or pieces missing, hey are perfect and in wonderful working order. The windows wind with ease. Take a gander at the really amazing wind-ding windows when they are open and no bar in between them and the main window. Also notice the split screen windshield with the gorgeous stainless trim surround and middle bar. These pieces are all original to the car and stand as a testament to how this wonderful example has lived its life in the dry California climate. Driving this amazing car can only be described as a visceral experience. It starts so easily, ven if you haven’t started it in a month, t just fires right up and catches a smooth, lmost sewing machine smoothness from the first rev. The silence is deadly at idle. Place a Martini Glass on the hood filled to the brim it is so smooth. The P15S drives effortlessly and is easy to maneuver for a 2900 lb vehicle with no power steering or brakes. The clutch is effortless, he three speed shifter is effortless, raking is crisp and again, i>effortless. The car tracks absolutely straight down the road with no vibration or movement on the road, hanks to the re-built front-end components. Sixty-five to seventy miles an hour is an easy task as the engine feels like it is barely working with the working Overdrive. Mechanically this car is a solid 10. I would get in it and drive it to New York City, hat’s just how reliable it is. This is a friendly little around town car or a freeway cruiser; a versatile little car that will fit into almost any role you choose for her. The only thing not working currently is the radio, t was working beautifully and just recently stopped. I haven’t had time to check it out, opefully just a fuse. The top end of the motor was gone through a little over 3K miles ago. It runs flawlessly on regular unleaded gasoline. The brakes were completely serviced around the same time. The tires have maybe 200 miles on them, s do the wheels. This vehicle has always been driven occasionally and has just been kept up and tuned it’s entire life. The man that owned this car simply loved it, erviced it and enjoyed it right up to the end of his life. His love for this car shows in the condition that it was kept throughout his life. The mileage on the car is accurate as the man used it during the first ten years of ownership and then kept it as a weekend fun car. It did a lot of sitting but was always regularly started and driven around the block. I have had it for five years and about 300 miles total, ut it is started and driven around the neighborhood at least every two to three weeks. Many enthusiasts believe the Business Coupe in Special Deluxe trim was the most attractive in the lineup with its very seductive lines and overall shape. The P15 is a very popular collectors item today, ainly due to its reasonable price, long with features that are normally found on more 'modern' cars. Some of these features are synchronized transmissions, our-wheel hydraulic brakes, turdy and reliable electrical systems (all original and works superbly, ook under the dash and see how clean everything is) and body styles that are eye-catching. The P15 can be used today even as a daily driver with its capable handling and adequate acceleration while getting a nifty 21 miles per gallon. It’s nearly impossible to accurately describe the lifelong character that has painted itself to this canvas of steel. Only by seeing and driving it can one experience the masterful life that this vehicle has lived. Little things make a great car… look at the shut lines, ook at the flawless “Special Deluxe” stainless trim pieces, east your eyes on the original mohair and bakelite “deco” interior knobs and buttons.
