Description of 1972 Plymouth Road Runner |
You are bidding on a 1972 Plymouth Roadrunner Superbird recreation. Everyone is obviously familiar with the some of the rarest wing cars of all time, the 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona and 1970 Plymouth Superbird. Both of these carswere created as street versions of a factory race car for NASCAR homologation. They completely dominated the track with their aerodynamic advantage using the nosecone to cut through the wind and rear wing to provide down force at high speeds. There were plans in the books for Plymouth to make the Superbird for a second year with the B-body, but the wing cars were banned and that idea never came to fruition. This particular car is a one-off creation that uses the more enveloped B-body instead of the boxy A-body. It is based off a 1972 Plymouth Satellite Sebring Plus that originally had a 318 CI V8 engine. The previous owner did this build and put LOTS of money into it. The nosecone fits perfectly with the front end, which was not an easy task considering it was not made for this body style. It has a powerful 440 CI V8 engine with Torqueflite automatic transmission. We are unsure of the actual horsepower, but this thing sounds like a beast and is loud. The color is black and it has full hood stripes, roof strobe stripes, black nosecone decals and wing decals with the famous Roadrunner that says "Road Runner Superbird" underneath. The interior is black as well with black bucket seats. Before I get into more detail, let me say that I would consider this to be an unfinished project. It was purchasedapproximately 4 years ago with the intent to finish it and drive as a car to take to various shows and cruise nights. However, we never had the time to do so and feel it is time to let it go so someone else can and then enjoy the car how it should be. As you can see, this was not done by an amateur and everything was done to look professional. The body is straight and solid with no issues and has no dents or scratches. However, the paint is what we would call a "5 footer". It looks great from 5 feet away, but when you get up close you can see some blemishes and cracks. The odometer shows 44,418 miles. We believe this to be original, but cannot say with 100% certainty. The title shows "exempt" for mileage. It has OEM 14" Rallye rims with Cooper Cobra Radial G/T tires. The brakes were upgraded from original drum to all 4-wheel disc brakes. We must note that the car has been sitting for several years now.It runs and drives, but will most definitely need to be completely gone over and have a safety inspection done to check the brakes, fluids and other important components before being driven. It recently had a brand new battery installed and it runs, idles without any issues at all. It turned right on with some starting fluid and fresh gasoline. The exhaust system is not finished and will need to have tailpipes added onto the car. The mufflers stop right at the end of the doors and beginning of the rear tires. We do have quad exhaust tips that will be included in the sale of the vehicle for the new owner. Most of the electrical work is done, but the gauges do not work and need to be hooked up. Besides that, everything else is fine. The headlights, tail lights and gauges all light up with the simple press of the button. The pop-up headlights in the nosecone function perfectly and are electric, not vacuum operated. When it comes to completing the car, I can say for sure that it will need a radio, windshield wiper arms and wiper blades. There is no choke on the engine and it does not have power steering. The paint is decent, but definitely not show ready by any means. When the car is fully completed, I am sure it will be worth at least $35,000 or above and that number is conservative. The amount of attention this car receives is incredible. This is your chance to own a Superbird for a fraction of the price of what an original 1970 will cost you. If you are a fan of the B-body as well, it is even better. This is being sold in AS IS condition with no warranty (contractual, verbal, implied or expressed). There are no liens on the car.We have it listedas a Buy It Now with the best offer option. I will look at and consider any reasonable offers, but serious inquiries only - no low ballers or dreamers.
