Description of 1971 Plymouth Barracuda Convertible |
PLEASE READ VERY CAREFULLY
There are a lot of details and information in the description and I'll be happy to answeryour questions if I missed anything. I purchased this car in the year 2000 with a bill of sale, no title, and a State issued VIN tag on the dash. After purchasing I had the Michigan State Police inspect the car and I applied for a title. I received the title with the VIN number on the title matching the dash tag. This is not a salvage title. I donot have the original vin tags. However thefactory stamped numbers are on the cowlindicating it is a 1971 Barracuda (B1). Thebright blue metallic (B5) paint is the original color of the car as you can see in the pictures before the car was painted and the new floor was installed. And itstill retainstheoriginal manual transmission hump. Possibly afour speed car ! Athree speed trans would makethe careven more rare. The car is currently registered, plated, and insured. I suggest you check with your State for rules and regulations before bidding. I have been working on it since 2000, and have spent thousands of hours to get it to this point. It was painted in 2006 and has been stored in the garage, and was driven for the first time in 2012 since being purchased. The odometer had 67,321 miles when I started working on it. The motor is a 1970 340 block and was completely rebuilt. dyno results were 451 Hp. @ 5700 rpm’s and 502 lbs. of torque @ 4000 rpm’s. I drove it approximately 900 miles over the next few years and I didn’t like the performance so Itook the motor back out and installed a set if Diamond flat top pistons and gained one compression point. Compression is now 11.8-1 and it runs on pump gas (92 octane). A new 850 Holley double pump carb replaced the 750 Holley HP. It runs very strong now and I can only estimate the horse power. It is a blast to drive ! At wide open throttle it's like driving on ice through first and second gear. Otherwise the car does handle very well. The car now has just over 69,700 miles and the motor has approximately 1500 miles since the pistons and carb were installed. I have included a detailed list of the engine and transmission components and all the parts used to putthe cartogether. I also included where a majority of the parts were purchased from andsome of the part numbers. Body Details After the rear frame rails were installed, the body was mounted on a rotisserie. All of the rust was sandblasted from the shell of the car in 2001. Then the floor pans, trunk pans, trunk extensions, quarter panels, and doors were installed. The weldsaren't perfect in the trunk area like they would be from the factory but are strong and rust free. I also did not install the floor or trunk body plugs. The body is very straight and the paint is beautiful. 340 Engine is now a 416 cubic inch small block. 833- 4 speed transmission, NOS Hurst shifter with pistol grip handle, Passon Performance overdrive gear set converts the 8 ¾ rear end with 4.86 sure grip to 3.91 ratio, attached to Doctor Diff axle shafts. Mancini Racing drive shaft loop surrounds the Joint Clutch and Gear custom drive shaft. Factory front and rear sway bars. Custom Weld in frame rail connectors TTI 2 1/2” X-pipe duel exhaust system from the ceramic coated headers to exhaust tips. 3 core aluminum radiator 340 Billboards Road lamp package Dual sport mirrors Factory Tuff wheel and adapter Rallye guage cluster with working clock Power Convertible Top. If you are considering purchasing a 71 Barracudaconvertible that needs a total restorationand think it will be cheaper than purchasing one that's already done, I can give you an estimate of the cost. $15000 average for the purchase of the car. $10000-$15000to rebuilda 500 HP motor $5000 for a transmission, clutch, pressure, linkages, mounts, shifter $3000-$5000 for rear end and suspension $2000-$3000 for sheet metal and interior $10000 or more for paint Addup everything then double it for the labor cost. An original 1971 Hemi Cuda convertible sells for over a million dollars. If you add my reserve price to the cost of a rebuilt Hemi engine and a shaker hood, it's under $90,000. I suggest you come and look at the car before bidding. Serious buyers only ! No tire kickers ! I do not accept any type of check ! No cashiers check ! No personal check ! No money order !
