Description of 1968 Plymouth GTX |
This car is a PROJECT! Very hard to come by, as most are done already. 1 of 506 440 auto's made in 1968, The projects that do come up are rotten, or basket cases, or have trees growing through them. It would make a perfect Restomod or a Hemi clone(1 of 36). What better car to start with than a real GTX Convertible!I bought this on Ebay 12 years ago and have stored it and accumulated a lot of hard to find pieces. The car is for the most part complete. It does need a rear seat medallion. I do have the missing rear seat panel trims and the pass side window stainless trim..I have a signed title from Missouri, from 1977, from the nephew of the 2nd owner, I have talked to the nephew to confirm the color both inside and out as well as the top color. The car does not have a data plate or broadcast sheet. The car will come with all paper work that I have as well as a bill of sale from me. The dash VIN is intact and original with no sign of tampering. The story on this car is the nephew did the red on red with the velvet interior, and sold it in the early 90's, and as it was being transported it fell off of a lowboy, went through a stop sign and ended up in a ditch. The third (new) owner was so disgusted that he sold it immediately to the fourth owner( that I have spoken with). He is the one that told me the lowboy story. So i am the sixth owner although no one has bothered to register or title the car since the second owner. All the damage coincides with the story I was told. Originally an 440 auto,Racing green/dark green with green interior and white top. power top, console, remote side mirror, looks like light group ( trunk light), and headrests, and power steering. Currently Red on Red with a deteriorated top and a velvet interior. Was last "restored" in the 80's. Car has been outside for a decade, but has been covered to keep water off of it with a thick mil membrane. All hard to find pieces there, only thing missing that is not reproduced is the rear seat medallion. All glass is in excellent condition with no tint. the front windshield is tinted and looks to be original. This is not a rotted car, for a convertible it is in solid shape. The car does have body damage, The front clip got pushed up and it looks like it was on a frame machine to put it back to where it should be, and the front inner fenders have a wrinkle in them, the lower rear quarters were replaced at some point and have bubbles and need replaced again., and has a dent on drivers quarter above wheel well, and a dent in the quarter panel on the passenger side between the wheel well and door jamb. It looks like it needs drivers quarter straightened ou, pass quarter panel straightened ou, and front inner fenders straightened out or replaced and a lower radiator support. the floors are in good shape with some pinholes, all are solid with the exception of the rear passenger side the floor (is intact but soft). I put an air grabber hood on it (No duct work), but needs adjustment and alignment . The rear frame rails although solid have been "torn" (looks like tow damage or frame machine damage?) Have parts that I have accumulated over the years that go with it, mostly stuff that was missing or in bad shape., like grille, deck lid with satellite finish panel, good front bumper core, lower grill panel, and center hood latch bracket some convertible only trim.that was missing,I have one inner fender that will go with the car. Odometer is 3114 and my guess is its 103114. This is a non numbers matching motor, No broadcast sheet or data plate, Transmission and rear are believed to be original to the car. Has a 1972 440 motor in it now that ran when parked, but currently does not run. Gas tank is out and does not leak. This car needs a total restoration, I took a lot of pictures to give you an overall condition of this car, The reserve is much lower than what I paid for this car 12 years ago here on Ebay.Bid to own.I will not ship. I can help with having car available on four aired up and rolling tires and rims. The rims on the car are ford rims and I may change to the magnum 500s that were on the car when i bought it. I need to make sure that I still have them. they were painted red and will need replaced but, did come with the car originally. Either way the car will come with rims and tires that hold air.I will require a nonrefundable $1000 dollar deposit upon end of auction. If you need more detailed pictures, or of a specific area, please contact and let me know. The car is in ventura county CA. Any bidder welcomed to come view the car in person.I can only put 24 photos, if interested text me and I can send about 30/40 photos of under body etc. Let me know what you would like to see.I reserve the right to end auction early as this car is for sale locally. Sold as is where is.Text to 805 732 3273Thanks
