Description of 1972 Plymouth Duster Gold Duster

A restored 1972 Plymouth Duster with a 375+ hp V8 and A/C interior would easily be worth the affordable price alone. But then when you see that this is a special Gold Duster, and it was a former Herb McCandless car, then you realize you've discovered one of the best deals in classic Mopars. This golden coupe truly is precious metal. After all, you don't get to see too many Chrysler A-bodies from this era anymore, and it's even more rare to see them restored to this standard. As a true Gold Duster, it has been treated to a respray of the original shade of Gold Leaf. And making sure this modern clearcoat has the best canvas possible there has been special attention paid to making this hardtop look like one of the best cars to ever come out of Chrysler's Hamtramck plant. But more than just great sheetmetal, the attraction also is in the details. This features the correct gold canopy vinyl roof, factory wheel covers, and the mirror-like bumpers have the great form-fitting appearance that came before federal regulations. All of this makes for a gold-standard classic that had you hooked even before you could tell people that it was once owned by drag racing legend Herb McCandless. When you open the door, the tan interior can be deceptively well upgraded. If that sounds odd, just take a look at the seats. The original bench was converted to comfortable front buckets with a center console in-between. But it might be hard to notice this upgrade at first, because the materials and pattern follow closely to what came from the factory. Still, we all know they never has conveniences like cup holders in '72. Another great hidden upgrade is the air conditioning is now running modem R134a, and the controls are concealed in the glovebox. In fact, the most noticeable modern upgrade will be the AM/FM/CD stereo. But as you slip behind the wheel, it's a pure classic car experience. You get the factory three-spoke steering wheel w/power steering, and beyond that, the original style dashboard offers a surprisingly complete array of gauges. One look at the engine bay, and you can tell the original slant-six has been given a major upgrade. After all, if you're going to mention McCandless' name, you want to lift the hood and see some serious Mopar power. It's a 360 cubic-inch V8 that was fully rebuilt at Kings Speed Shop in 2007. It includes a .30 over kit, balanced and blueprinted bottom end, Mopar performance intake, four-barrel carburetor, and plenty more. The full package is rated at 378 horsepower. Making sure this enhanced V8 package gets all its power reliable to the ground is a stout A727 Torqueflite three-speed automatic that was rebuilt at the same time as the motor, and this feeds the strong Yukon gear in the rear end. Also, take some time to look at the undercarriage photos. Not only will you see a very clean car, but also you'll spot upgrades like new bushings, new bearings, a thick sway bar, and front disc brakes. This coupe already has an impressive story to tell. But you'll love it even more considering it comes with all the right docs, like the factory buildsheet, original warranty card, owner's manual, build receipts, and restoration photos. Affordable and amazing classics like this don't come around too often, and they never stay available long, so you might not get a second chance at this one. Call now!
