Description of 1973 Plymouth Road Runner |
This Road Runner was completely disassembled and has had rotisserie paint and body work. High quality and well over a 100 pictures documenting every step of the process.I had been looking for a nice driver, 4 speed 73 Roadrunner. Heck, My first car was a 73 Road Runner. For 4 months, I frantically searched and couldn't find the right car. Then, in 2014, in a St Louis Craigslist Ad, was a primer black, 4 spd, 73 Bird for $6,900. Awesome & Honest Don sold me the car. He wasn't sure about it being matching #s, but was told by the previous owner, that it was. He was also told that the motor and trans both were completely rebuilt but had no receipts. When we arrived to pick up the car the excitement began. Solid body, ALL ORIGINAL SHEET METAL and no accidents, fired right up with a nice cam, clutch was good and drove right up on the trailer. Primer black was everywhere, but I could seeevidence of the JF1 mist green factory color. This was the color of my first Bird. I thought wow, his is meant to be. The fender tag was in place. We then verified the matching numbers on the engine and the 4spd. :-) I had a blast driving it just like it was for a few months. It hauls butt and has chirped the tires going into 4th gear. I decided to have this very deserving car restored. I have spent over $20,000 for paint, body, wet sand, buff and stripe install. Kenny Drake Kustoms did an AWESOME job! Thank you Kenny and his staff! :-) Another $14,000 plus was spent on the following; $1,859.00 Legendary Interiors Seat covers, door panels, carpet etc.$2,000.00 AMD Lower inside 1/4s, door hinges and complete glass set, misc$800.00 M&H Reproduction Wiring Harnesses$900.00 Just Dashes Restored Dash Pad Gorgeous!$425.00 Restored Dash Frame$1,000.00 Wheels and Tires$400.00 Phoenix Graphix Stripes$1,300.00 Summit Racing Moog suspension, engine parts etc.$775.00 Re-Chromed extremely straight bumpers$400 Hurst Shifter, Mount and rods$500.00 Mint low 22k mile cluster$650.00 Restored Steering Column$615.00 AMS Obsolete Mirrors and bumper fillers$743.00 Firestone Collectibles Washer bottle, door handles. cables, rear view mirror, etc.$570.00 Inline Tube New fuel & brake lines, emergency brake hardware$300.00 NAPA Brake Booster, master and wheel cyls etc.$1,000 Miscellaneous I have 90% of the receipts. No less than 150 hours of labor prepping, painting parts and putting her back together was invested. My AWESOME friend Dave did the most and hardest of it. :-) Thank you Dave! :-) This is one cool Mopar. One site states that there were 956 340 4 Speed Birds built in 1973. Another site states that approximately 2% were JF1, Mist Green. Combine this with the MATCHING NUMBERS 340 engine and the 4 Speed Transmission, I'd say this is Road Runner is RARE and COLLECTIBLE Runs and drives excellent. All lights, turn signals, brake and reverse lights work. Wipers work with NOS motor and linkage bushings. fuel, amp, oil pressure and temperature gauges work. Speedometer needs cable installed Tach needs wire harness Needs E Brake system finished out. Mechanism works, but pull handle is broken. Replacement handle included Needs Road Runner Horn 3.55 Sure-Grip Rear Differential whines a little but operates well Scratch down the passenger door and fender pictured. Summary; This is a VERY NICE BIRD! It was done right and will last for many years!
