If you wanted power for the street in 1965, your Plymouth dealer had it. With the new Hemi raging on the racetracks, buyers could still get the largest-displacement engine offered by any Detroit company in the form of the 426 Street Wedge. This car is in a special category, as it was one of only 21 factory 426S Satellite convertibles built in 1965, which would be the final year this engine was offered in the mid-size Chrysler lineup. The body itself had been nicely restyled for a year Plymouth termed “The Roarin’ 65s!,” with mildly contoured side panels topped with a pinched seam just below the door handle; seven small chrome ribs were added just ahead of the tail lights, and the stamped grille was decisively separated via a red-white-blue center insert. This car came off Plymouth’s Lynch Road Assembly Plant on March 3, 1965, and today it showcases agorgeousframe-off restoration. The Satellite was one position below the Sport Fury in terms of standard equipment, but this car is exceptionally optioned. Take the engine: conservatively rated at 365 HP, this RB-block design features a 4-barrel carburetor, 10.3:1 compression, factory chrome dress-up parts, dual exhaust and good bottom-end components resulting in excellent street manners. Because of the upscale nature of this car, it came equipped with a floor-shifted A727 TorqueFlite automatic transmission and a highway-friendly 3.23:1 Sure Grip rear end. Perfect as a cruiser. The exterior is covered in factory Ruby Metallic Red with a contrasting white convertible top; special touches include the centered 426 hood emblem, wheel-opening trim and chrome rocker-panel moldings. Inside, the black interior hosts premium-grade bucket seats, a center console, AM Transaudio radio, power top and pushbutton controls. The bias-ply white-stripe tires, spinner-design hubcaps, chrome air cleanerand valve covers are on it, and this car was optioned with back-up lights.
