Description of 1972 Plymouth Duster CUSTOM |
We have decided to sell our 1972 Plymouth duster 340 car. We have gone over every nut bolt and washer on this car. I purchased the car on e-bay from the State of New Jersey. I flew down and drove it home sight unseen in the middle of winter. Turned a few heads coming home in snow storms. Since February of 2014 I have been restoring this car. First the front end sheet metal was removed. Then the engine, transmission and front suspension were removed. The car was undercoated from the factory so the sheet metal was in great shape. The inner fenders had some rust down near the shock mount frame. So these were replaced with a complete new set from Layson restorations. The only other rust was the very bottom of the back quarters so again Layson lower patch panels were installed. The doors, hood, fenders and trunk lid were media blaster to bare metal primed in high build primer. The car was professionally painted while in pieces and then reassembled by a local paint shop. The shop only work on one car ata time and he always turns out a nice product. The fresh paint is single stage SASSY GRASS GREEN. All of the weather-stripping is new, stripes are new, carbon fiber graphics on the hood arenew. The rear spoiler is new. The front grill is new. All of the interior is either new or in great shape. New aftermarket seat with green stitching with four point racing harness. They also reclineor adjust to your comfort. The headliner and rear seats are all in amazing shape. The Hurst shifterwas painstakingly installed to appear as a factory install. New tuff wheel with the correct steeringcolumn. Even this was taken apart and all new bearing signal light switch etc were installed. Under dash gauges are also new. The radio area is mint. I went radio delete as I never use music in the car.I want to enjoy the sounds of the engine and exhaust. You can easily add a radio if desired. Mechanically she has an all new front end powder coated back, new front and rear sway bars, all new bushings and bearings, tie rod ends you name it, new disc brakes on the front. New shocks, new bushings, new Borgeson steering box, new Doug’s headers feed a completely new exhaust. new transmission cooler, new tires and 15” rims. New power brake vacuum pump, all new HEI electronics.I did my best to reduce wires and make the engine bay as clean as possible. The 904 transmission was rebuilt and a shift kit + 2500 stall converter was installed. Posi track rear end with 3:80 gears. The rad is a factory AC car radiator and works well. I am sure that I am missing more as I just remembered to gas tank sending unit as well. The “340” Well it was completely disassembled and sent out for inspection and machining. The cylinders were machined out to .030” oversize. The crank was machined and balanced, the heads were J heads. They are now stainless big valve 2.02 / 1.88 heads. They were treated to some flow work and gasket matching. All new bearings and gaskets were used. All new frost plugs etc. were installed. Redline cam ( see spec. sheet attached )and new bearingswere installed. In addition a double timing chain gears and a tension-erwere installed, Comp cam roller rockers and new push rods were also added. Sitting on top is an air-gap intake and a new 600 CFM carb. This is the fourth Mopar I have restored. In all over 400 man hours were spent perfecting this car.she turned out to be a very nice representation of a 1972 340 Duster. These are truly getting rarer. There was not a single one at the BarrettJackson’s auction in Scottsdale in 2017. She looks great, She drives great, runs great and demands an audience everywhere she goes. She rumble, barks and spins the tires. She will deliver whatever your foot asks her for. Oh and her name is “DUSTY” Car is located in Salmon Arm BC Canada, Can be driven or loaded onto your carrier. You can fly here and drive her home. I am currently trying to up load some you tube clips for this auction item. www.youtube.com/watch?v=dzvo8Xy0GwM www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNinMgN3F54 |
