Description of 1965 Plymouth Valiant |
Main photo looks like quarter panel is dented but it is a reflection of the ground and the car next to me. Photo taken inside the Daytona Speedway. I found this car as a running, driving survivor with one repaint in Georgia, near Atlanta. It has never had to survive the rath of car eating winters in the North. The engine and transmission were very tired. The engine smoked and leaked some, the transmission leaked a lot. It had the 273 V8 Comando engine in it and a 904 cable shift transmission. I put a completly rebuilt 340 V8 with a thumper cam in it followed by a rebuilt late model 904 transmission along with a rebuilt sure grip rear end 391 gears. The 340 engine Dynos at 380 H. P. This is a fast muscle car now. New u-joints and brakes and steering serviced. The driveline is basically new. Car has about 600 miles since rebuild. Car still needs some cosmetics, see photos, but is a good looking driver as is. Power top works but has a slight leak minor fix. One small tear on drivers seat. Small rip on top, repaired with piece on back. Speedometer cable not hooked up,needs new cable. I use GPS for speedo. Plymouth introduced the Valiant for the 1960 model year as an affordable compact car which sported an thrifty slant six engine. In 1964 Chrysler released a 273 cubic inch V8 to fit in the little Valiant. At the time it was the most affordable V8 automobile in the world. In 1965 they offered the Commando 273 which featured a 4 barrel carburetor and was rated at 235 HP; not too shabby for such a little car. To make things even better, they offered this hot little package in a convertible, With bucket seats and a floor shift transmisson. Over time, many of these compact Plymouths were used and abused, crashed, rusted out, or worse. Odds are if you grew up in the 60s, you probably have a story involving a Valiant. Many of these little compacts were people's first cars, commuter cars, or hand-me-downs. Their reliability, affordability, and simplicity made for a great way to get around. I have taken great effort to keep the car as original as when it came out. The floor shifter has been converted to a ratchet shifter adapted to the original housing. The wheels are later model rally wheels but I have the original tires, wheels, and hub caps to put on the car. I thought the Rallys looked better. Phone 386-405-4507 Florida.
