Description of 1949 Plymouth P17 Special Deluxe 2 door |
1949 two door sedan model "Special Deluxe". This is an original body car with some important alterations to make it a very drivable "street rod". The body: All original body parts, not a "parts car", never crashed, so no bondo or hidden repairs. The car has been repainted of course, using start of the art current day paint and clear coat. Under the hood: The power comes from a Chevrolet 350 cubic inch, "four bolt main" engine. (This engine began life in a 1970 Chevelle). Spark is supplied by a MSD "Multi Spark Discharge" system with breaker-less distributor. Exhaust goes out through Headman headers and 2.5 inch low restriction mufflers and pipes. Drive Train: The transmission is a Chevrolet 700R4 four speed overdrive with a B&M shift kit operated by a Hurst "Dual Gate" shifter. The drive shaft and rear end are Pontiac Firebird. The ratio is 3.42 in the positraction third member. The rear springs are brand new. Carrying the engine and mated to the stock Plymouth frame, the sub frame, is 1981 Olds 98. The disc brakes & front suspension are also Olds. 15" Eagle Alloys aluminum wheels all the way around give the car the stock wheel size look of class. Tires front are General Touring A/S P195 /65 R15, rear tires are Bridgestone Dueller H/T 689s, P235 /70 R15. Fewer than 1000 miles on the wheels/tires. Creature comforts: Interior is leather with electric buckets up front and standard leatherbench rear. New door liners, headliner and carpeting throughout. Tilt steering column is 70s era GM with custom wood wheel. The original dash sports all the original gauges, and this maybe the only 1949 Plymouth you will ever see with a working clock keeping perfect time week after week. 12-volt gauges mounted in cluster on the floor replace all functions except working original speedometer. FM and AM stations are pulled into a converted radio through an electric antenna, which automatically rises at a touch of the dial. Climate control is Vintage Air professionally installed requiring only two non original outlets in the dash. This is accompanied by a fully functional cowl outside air intake. Windshield wipers are stock with new blades and driven by stock vacuum motor for a step back in time taste of the intermittent performance never seen on modern vehicles. As can be seen in the photos, the exterior is the best part of this beauty, from the stock classic bumpers, to the beautiful "ground glass iridescent" $250 a quart paint. Door locks and trunk lock all function in their stock manner, with all original stock hardware. Even though this gem is a show trophy winner, it can be driven anywhere with confidence! It is the perfect joining of nostalgia and modern comfort and power certain to put a smile on your face every time your press the accelerator pedal! |
