Introduction: 1957 PLYMOUTH FURY Just removed from 40 years storage An original survivor Original; paint, chrome, gold anodized trim & interior Fury V-800 318 V8 Polyspherical Head Motor Solid lifter & high lift camshaft Dual points distributor Dual quad carburetors High compression with 290 horse power 150 mph speedometer Torque Flite transmission, power steering, power brakes Push button radio with front & rear speakers Rare Power Windows Original 1957 Invoice & paper work Runs & Drives Beautifully Brief History: July 2, 1957 J.C. Welch, Jr. of Harrisburg, PA purchased brand new a 1957 Plymouth Fury # 16322423 from J. B. Martin Motors, Inc. Chrysler Plymouth of Harrisburg PA. Note: Mr. Welsh was single &never had children. He did have a nice house with a garage for the Fury. 1969 (12 years have now passed) Mr. Welsh died & his nephew inherits the house & the Fury that's sitting in the garage. The nephew ( who did not drive) moved into the house & the Fury with almost 90,000 miles on its odometer remains in the garage. 1976 a local family was finally able to talk nephew into selling them the car. They drove the car almost 300 miles, before placing into long term storage where it would stay for40 years. (odometer @ 90,289 miles) May 5, 2018 we found & purchased the Fury. Car was covered in dust in dry garage up on jack stands. We learned that it had been stored there since 1977. (One of the photos shows car as we found it.) Car was stored with windows up & seats covered with blankets. Miles were 90,289 on the odometer. We trailered the car home. Bath time: Hand wash decades of dust & dirt from the car. Lightly hand polish & hand wax the original "Sand Dune White" paint. Use chrome polish on the original chrome to reveal its brilliance. Remove blankets that were covering seats & floor mats that were covering carpet. Interior needed no cleaning other than light vacuuming & window glass cleaning. Fury Comes To Life: Drain the old gas, clean originalceramic fuel filters, change motor oil & filter, clean dualpoints, drain coolant &refill with new antifreeze, install new master cylinder, wheel cylinders, brake shoes& brake fluid, install new wiper inserts, check fluids, fill tank with " pure gasoline", install new battery &4 new correct 8.00x14 2 inch wide white sidewall tires, etc. On the first try, the engine started right up & ran perfectly! Note: To date we have driven the car numerous times (trouble free) for a total of 670 miles. Odometer now reads 90,962 miles. s Amazingly the car drives much like a new 1957 Plymouth Fury would have driven Motor starts instantly, runs smooth, cool, quietly, has loads of power & does not smoke. Car drives, handles, accelerates & brakes wonderfully with no squeaks or rattles. Transmission shifts effortlessly, steering has no play, car tracks straight & has no vibrations. Everything Working Properly: High/Low beam headlights, parking lights, turn signals, back-up lights, license plate lights, horns, wipers, speedometer (smooth & steady), odometer, dash lights, gauges, radio, front & rear speakers, interior courtesy lights, glove box lamp, heater, defroster & fan. Rare power windows work perfectly. (note: clock does not work.) Exterior / Interior Description: The original paint is clean, bright & shows very well. Car does have numerous small paint chips "mostly below front bumper & on front of hood" that had been brush touched up over 40 years ago. ( see photo) This is a rust free automobile. The only corrosionis above the headlights, there are tiny spots that had been brush touched up over 40 years ago. (see photos) The original chrome, anodized gold trim & stainless are in excellent condition with no pitting or corrosion. Original hubcaps are dent free & still retain most of their gold inlays. Windshield is clear with no scratches, scuffs or starbursts. Side glass & rear glass are clean & free of any cracks The original interior is amazing. The seats are not worn, faded or cracked. Headliner & sun visors are perfect. Door panels are very nice. Carper is not worn or faded & heel / pedal pads with little raised circles are in very nice condition. Beautiful original steering wheel with no cracks. Chrome & gold detailing are all in excellent condition. Instrument panel is perfect. Padding on top of dash is warped as is typical for theses cars.
