Description of 1971 Plymouth Barracuda |
1971 Plymouth Hemi Cuda Most enthusiasts of these cars are quite familiar with the desirability of the 1971Hemi Cuda and most consider them to be the king of all muscle cars. They once ruled the streets, and they now rule the high end of the Musclecar marketplace.Being one of only 48 1971 Hemi Cuda automaticsproduced for US consumption is one thing, but also having so many other things going for it are what make this particular example even more special, rare, and desirable. Many of these cars were raced and abused from day one, after all, most who ordered a Hemi Cuda didn't do so with fuel economy or grocery shopping in mind, these people wanted to go fast! Unfortunately many lost their original engines or transmissions to the racing gods or were rusted and wrecked from all-weather driving. Very few survived intact and in good condition, yet this one did! This Hemi Cuda is a very rare "No Excuses" example! While you may find a couple 71 Hemi Cuda on the market, in most cases you will find that they have a darker past. Most will have either anon-numbers matching engine or transmission, a missing body number from an accident or rust, multiple body panelreplacements, added or changed options to make them more appealing or eye-catching, or even worse, phony documentation, the list goes on. Not with this example, it has none of these exceptions or "excuses", it's the rare exception. It is also one of the best optioned examples with a plethora of popular items checked off of the options list. Start off with the most popular color on a 71 Hemi Cuda, FE5 Red, then move on to the top grade leather bucket seat interior, the must-have Rallye Gauge package with 8,000 RPM tachometer, the super cool Rim Blow steering wheel, and center console with T-Handle Slap Stik Automatic Shifter. Power Steering and Power Disc Brakes were ordered to help tame the brutish Hemi's street driving manners, while the rarely ordered, but often added, front & rear spoilers, colored keyed Racing Mirrors, color-keyed Cheese Grater Cuda Grille, Road Lamps, and F60-15 Goodyear Polyglass GT wrapped 15" x 7" Rallye Wheels round out the car in the external looks department. Because it's a rare California car and had to be built to meet Californias exhaust noise compliance laws, it lacks the cutouts in the rear valance that Cudas sold outside of California have. Double O.E. Gold Winner! No other Hemi Cuda has ever achieved an O.E. Gold certificate from both the Mopar Nationals judging body as well as the ICCA judging body headed by Mr. David Wise. This car scored over 96% and 97% respectivelyby two completely unrelated judging bodies! Keep in mind, that O.E. class cars typically have over 3,000 potential detail points judged, while shows such as MCACN only have 1000 potential points. O.E. is an ENTIRELY different level, the highest level! Body & PaintOriginally sold new in Southern California where it remained up until recent years when it was discovered and restored. Other than some unknown road trips It has never been driven in any other state! No rust history! This car retains all of its original unibody sheet metal, original quarters, floor pans, trunk floors, doors, etc. Paint is the original FE5 Red color and is shot in a factory correct single stage paint. InteriorThis car retains most of its original interior, mint uncracked dash pad, leather seats, door panels, etc. are original and beautiful. EngineThe original numbers matching engine is the very same one installed at the factory and is still in this car, it was freshened up to stock specifications with all machine work done by the Legendary Dick Landy Industries (receipts included). The O.E. detailing it received was good enough to support it's double O.E. Gold award-winning status, however never satisfied, the current owner has continued to upgrade and improve the car wherever possible, one examplebeing an original dated and correct alternator restored by the master, Jim Ridge. TransmissionThe factory installed numbers matching unit, fully refreshed to stock specifications SuspensionFully restored to original with original and NOS components. ExhaustFully restored to original, most being NOS components Current conditionZero miles since the restoration was completed by Mike Volz of Rocket Restorations in Olympia Washington. Currently located and stored at Mike Mancini'sAmerican Musclecar Restorations in North Kingstown RI where a substantial number of items have been upgraded keeping the car tocurrent OE. standards. The car was originally equipped with V5X thin black body side moldings which are not installed in the photos above. However, an extraordinarily rare and complete NOS 6 piece set of these moldings have been purchased and will be included with purchase. These moldings are adhesive backed so can be installed or removed without harming the paint. Documentation
