Description of 1968 Plymouth GTX 426 Hemi |
Vehicle Details 1968 Plymouth GTX-Vin RS23L8A, originally 440, 4 speed, Dana 60 reared. Original engine was disassembled sometime around 1971-72 by the original owner. He passed away after only having the car for 4 years. Car sat in a barn for 3 years with half the engine in the trunk. 2nd owner purchased the car in 1975 for $600. He only wanted it for the rearend. He then decided to repair the car and get it back on the road. The 440 was rebuilt and stuffed back in the car. Something didn't look right, so he bought a Weiand 6-71 blower from Honest Charlies, put it on the 440 and then painted the car the color it is today, all in 1975. 440 had about 200 miles put on it in 10 years. This was in Alaska. Only a few months of driving weather up there. Around the mid 80's, he decided to pull the 440 and sell it to fund a hemi build. By the late 80's, a blown 426 hemi was installed in the car. Backed by the original 4 speed and Dana 60 rearend. That is the same combination you see in the car today. 2nd owner (Mike) took really good care of his car. Sure, it had some paint chips and scratches, but still looked good for 47-year-old paint. That is how long Mike owned the car, until I purchased it just over 2 years ago. It has a clean Arizona title in my name. Everything listed below, that has been done to the car, has less than 100 miles on them. 1968 cast 426 hemi block. Block has been o ringed as well. Everything in/on the engine is either new aftermarket parts or reconditioned stock Mopar. Arias forged pistons, Stage V aluminum heads, TRW moly rings, Crane blower cam and pushrods, Cragar polished aluminum intake manifold, Rocker arms and pushrods are stock, Rockers were refurbished with new bushings by a shop that specializes in Hemis, TRW lifters and bearings, Borg Warner NASCAR style pressure plate and disc, trans was rebuilt with new synchro's and bushings, Dana 60 has updated axle bearing kits with 3.23 gears. It has the Hemi K-member and torsion bars. Only thing missing is the little "J" in the vin number!! New upper control arms, tie rod ends, Bilstein shocks all around. New carpet, upholstery, door panels. Original owner had the dealer install the armrests with the ashtrays in the front and the back. I still have them in a box that will come with the car. The original AM radio was converted to AM/FM Bluetooth capability. It has the Dakota Digital dash gauges just like the original with the 150 MPH speedometer. This was an early built car, so it had the 150 and not the 15. The pistol grip shifter is from a 1970 GTX. TTI headers. Coldcase aluminum radiator with dual electric fans and shroud, controlled by the Holley Sniper EFI. Has the Holley Sniper Stealth 4500 dominator style fuel injection with all the Hyperspark ignition components. The fuel tank, fuel pump and all the lines are new from Tanks INC. It has been professionally tuned by Nick Langen (Mad Science Motorsports). Came in around 600 horsepower, but that was only at 3-4 lbs of boost and 63% throttle. Not much room around here to let her fly. Could get closer to 700hp at full throttle. Headlights are LED with stock appearing housings. Taillights are DigiTails LED lights behind stock lenses. 3" H pipe exhaust with bigger 50 series Flowmaster mufflers. Bolt-on subframe connectors. Four-wheel disc brakes. This car is all manual! No power steering, no power brakes. Paint has had some paint correction done to it. Its not perfect. I wanted it to look good for another few years, until I tore it down and painted it back to the original MM1 turbine bronze color. It's definitely a fun car to drive and gets tons of attention.
