For Sale: 1962 Plymouth Valiant V200 sedan. This is the last vehicle owned by Hollywood movie star Lili (Lily) Damita before she passed away. I am the 4th owner and have owned it for the last 19 years. Car has been stored indoors its whole life. First the car: 19,280 original miles, as stated by the Lili's widower before he died. Obviously, this is a vintage car with a 5 digit odometer- so there is no way to prove or disprove the actual mileage. So the car is being sold as "mileage unknown". Automatic transmission with pushbutton gear selector- commonly referred to as "typewriter drive". Power steering, manual brakes, Motorola AM radio. Mark IV aftermarket hang on air conditioning (fan blows but compressor does not engage). Model V200 which means it is equipped with the larger 225 cubic inch slant 6 engine. (Cast iron block) Vinyl interior presents as nearly new, with no tears in the seats or headliner, dash pad is good, and the carpet looks good under the mats. There is one small rock chip in the windshield near the rear view mirror, but the rest of the glass is good. The paint on the car is marginal at best. At some point, Lili had some rust repair done to the car. There is some mud in the bottoms of the fenders behind the front wheels, and in the quarter panels behind the rear wheels. The rocker panels, doors, and wheel arches check out as solid with a magnet. When the car was repainted, it was done rather poorly- however it is the paint that was on the car when Lili owned it. There is one small bit of rust on the quarter panel near the rear wheel. It has been there since I have owned the car, The front of the car appears a little cattywampus as well, it appears Lily may have had a minor collision with something and then had the car repaired. The car has spent its entire life in Iowa, so for its age it does not appear too bad. (I also have the piece of trim that is missing off the rear door. Lili clipped a garage door with the car and knocked it off years ago.) The engine does start and run, but the car has not been on the road in years. The engine will need some work to be drivable. The intake/exhaust manifold assembly has a large crack in it, which makes the car loud and run rough when you first start it up. As the engine warms up, the crack heats up and the engine quiets down and smooths out. I have a spare intake/exhaust carb setup that I pulled off a junkyard car that goes with the car. The brakes do hold pressure, but the car does pull to one side when braking. The transmission does go in a and out of drive and reverse with no problem. If you want to learn Lili Damita's whole story, I suggest you Google her name. There is plenty of information out there on her, way more than I have room for here. First and foremost, this is a PROJECT car. If you are looking for a good running, road ready Plymouth Valiant- there are better ones out there. This one will need some work to be road ready. But it is a good candidate for a project as it is solid and complete. And it has an interesting history: This 1962 Plymouth Valiant was bought new by Hollywood Movie actress Lili Damita after her marriage to Fort Dodge, Iowa businessman Al Loomis. She used the car as her transportation in Fort Dodge up until her divorce, when she moved to Palm Beach, Florida and left the car with her ex-husband. Al did not drive the car, but left it in the garage. After Lili died, Al moved the car to his name, and then sold it to a friend of mine. After a few years of taking it to car shows, my friend sold it to me. I have had it 19 years and have done very little with it. The car is in exactly the condition it was in when it left Lily's custody (except for the mechanical issues). Included with the sale are an original owner's manual, factory shop manual, factory sales folder, and a photo album of press photos I have collected over the years. I also have an original vehicle registration slip showing her married name "Liliane C Loomis" as owner. IF you have any questions about this car, or its history. please CALL me.
