Description of 1964 Pontiac GTO

1964 Pontiac Lemans. "Title states 1964 Pontiac GTO". When I purchased the car. it had GTO badging & the previous owner believed it to be a GTO. I really didn't care either way. this car was straight & clean. I did some research on the car. Appears that on these 1964 models. (1st year of the GTO). it's a little difficult in some cases to determine either way. PHS documentation on this car has very little to go off of and they state that in "all" their copies they sent me. nbsp;it was their very best they can do. They can definitely determine it is a Lemans. GTO option was just a few hundred bucks more in 1964. Thought I'd get that out 1st. nbsp;before you go any further reading about this vehicle. For you engine # matching guy's. the engine numbers is a 1965 389. so no. it's not the original engine either. You can call it a "tribute or a clone". doesn't bother me either way. It is what it is. If this matters that much to you. "then this isn't the car for you". This car was built to be driven. not to sit in a garage & sip wine over. Purchased this car about 3 years ago & after driving it for about a year. i decided it needed to be better. After investing well over $60k & numerous hours. nbsp;this is what it looks like now. About 95% done. Most say it look's finished now. Now my two sons say they want a pilot house fishing boat. so they can go fishing with their father. I can't have both & would rather spend time with my boy's fishing. so here you go. Spent numerous hours. bleeding & sweating over this ride & now it's just a few clicks away from a new owner. In the last two years. here's a list. but not limited to what has been done:Note: when I say new. new meaning not 1964 parts. these are parts that I purchased within the last 2 years new. Engine removed and completely rebuilt. see build sheet below. Hydraulic roller cam. New 3 speed automatic transmission. New eaton posi-trac rear end with 3. 55 gears. New 4 wheel disc brake kit with drilled & slotted roters. Front disc brake's are 6 piston Wilwood calipers with 15" drilled & slotted rotors. which fit's nicely in the 18" Foose rims. New Paint jobNew braided brake lines and new hard brake line's with a new master cylinder. New Motor & Transmission mount's. New Hotchkis front & rear sway bars. New bilstein shocks in front with new coil springs in front & rear with a little drop. New QA1 adjustable coil over shocks in the rear. New fuel line from the new fuel tank to the new screw in fuel filter to the new fuel pump. New alternatorNew Power Steering pumpNew Optima BatteryNew MSD Ignition boxNew Plug wiresNew Edelbrock intake manifold with Dual Edelbrock 650's. (dual quad). New dome light. New door locks & handles. All new glass. except rear window. (could be replaced. has small scratches in glass). Several other item's as well. this is just a few I can remember off the top of my head. Keep in mind. this is a one year model car. several parts are still unavailable for this car. Have a few thing's brand new in boxes. still haven't got around to install. such as a set of Eddie motorsport chrome hood hinges with chrome shocks. New Holley electric fuel pump with fuel pressure regulator. New original stock. the heater/dash controls. Original one is still in dash. not connected. 4 point Pontiac seat belt harness's for the front. Spark plug wire boot cover's. All this is included with this car in the auction. 5% left to be finished:Rear window is orignal. has a few scratches in glass. Heater controls need to be hooked up. Windows could use a little adjusting for a perfect fit. They roll up and down fine. just where the two pieces of glass on the side window's meet. it's not a perfect fit. Front bumper could be adjusted to the left about 1/8" to be perfectly centered. Tail light wiring in trunk could be a little neater and wrapped in wire loom. Below the rear window glass. on both edges of the body above the trunk. there's two hairline cracks where the body seam was filled in & now it's starting to crack. Windshield motor never connected back up. wasn't planning on driving it in the rain any. Master cylinder could be painted. original finish when bought new. Other than that car looks & shows great. Turns heads everywhere. Everyone wants to race @ every stop light & when it's parked. everyone want's to take a picture beside it. They claim it was the 64 GTO that started the muscle car era. Here's the engine rebuild sheet. Work completed 8-2-12. Installed in car & running November of 2012Engine: Rods=Eagle Pistons=ForgedBlock=Stock Type=H-Beam Type=RacetecType=Pontiac Length=6. 8 C. Thick/Vol=. 040You can expect an estimated 500 HP. coming from the engine builder who built a few of these & had them dyno tested. I've driven cars with 500 HP. this vehicle definitely has that torque. Engine compression is 11. 1Car starts right up & run's very strong. This car handles extremely well. It takes corner's like it's on a rail. Plenty of low end torque which will sit you back in the seat. It does have a noticeable lope @ idle. just the rightamount of cam. Car is stored in a climate controlled garage. This is a muscle car. this is not a fuel efficient vehicle. Also. with the 3 speed transmission and 3. 55 gears in the rear end. this is perfect for cruising the coast and around town. It wasn't set up to drive cross country. Unless you have a pocket full of fuel money & time. it will do just fine. This Pontiac motor is definitely unique sounding especially with the x pipe. people turn heads wondering what it is everywhere. To answer a few question's:Is this a pebble beach show car=NoIs it great for your local car show or cruise nights=YesIs this a driver=YesCan it be used as a daily driver= I suppose. but it is pretty niceDoes it have a few small chips in the paint here & there=YesDoes engine smoke any=No Has it won any trophies=YesWill it do a burn-out=YesDoes the car have a/c=NO. but the two vent windows work just fine. If it bother's you. vintage air makes a nice kitIs the mileage accurate on odometer=NO (Just installed an electronic GPS receiver unit. which is more reliable then the transmission gear which wasabout 20mph off @ 65). I would safely say this engine has about 6500 miles on it. Just being honest. Will I assist with loading it for transport=YesWill I ship it=No. you can handle all the shipping arrangementsCan I take it for a joyride=Sorry. no free rides. Can I test drive it=How about I drive & you sit passenger until the funds clearWas this a nut/bolt & original marking restoration=No This vehicle was restored for performance & reliability. Wasn't restored to sit in a garage & talk to your buddies about driving it one day. This is a vehicle you can drive & not get upset if someone leans on it. This is a nice driver. Was fixed up for go. not show. Is it loud=Can be during acceleration if desiredDo I need to run racing fuel=No. I run 93 octane & add a bottle of octane boost. runs just fineOn a scale of 1-10. I'd rate it a strong 9. Still has a few little thing's left to be done. But makes for a perfect driver quality show car. Vehicle will not leave until payment has been received & cleared in full.
