Description of 1961 Pontiac Catalina |
1961 Pontiac Catalina Bubbletop in beautiful Shelltone Ivory over Green interior color combination. The car is numbers matching and spent the first 48 years in North Carolina until I bought it from the second owner in 2010 and the lack of rust shows that it was well cared for over the years. The second owner and his wife said that they spent several years in the 1980's gathering NOS parts at swap meets before conducting a frame-on restoration and repaint in the early 1990's. The car still shows well, ut the paint is average quality and shows its age in spots. The car is nearly rust free and only shows signs of minor rust repair on the rear quarters above the wheel openings and still wears all of its original panels, loors, nd trunk. Since owning the car I have installed a professional restored date code correct 1961 tri-power intake and carbs and converted the transmission to a 4-speed to make the car more like I would have wanted it to be if I had been able to order one new. I've also purchased correct door panels, ick panels, arpet, trunk mat, runk panels, oker wide white wall tires, nd reproduction maintenance free battery. The car runs and drives great and needs nothing. Drivetrain: * Original numbers matching 389 engine that has had a stock rebuild. Runs great with no issues. * Correct date coded 1961 tripower intake and carburetors rebuilt by Bob Stone (Carbdoctor) with full mechanical linkage. Carbs look great, unction properly and don't leak!! * Correct big-car tripower air cleaner with no damage to snorkels that has been professionally repainted in the correct gloss black. * Complete period correct 4-speed conversion. Most parts were sourced from Fabcraft including the 1962 clutch linkage and correct shifter, hifter porch, andle and knob. * Original 1961 throwout bearing fork and cast iron bell housing * New Super T-10 aluminum transmission with 2:88 1st gear * Denny's 3" steel driveshaft * Centerforce clutch and pressure plate * 3:23 posi rear center section (not installed) Interior: * Seat covers made from NOS materials that are correct for a Catalina. The "Pontiac" script on the seat backs is not correct, ut correct materials can now be sourced from SMS if desired. * Brand new (not installed) correct Catalina embossed door panels from SMS. I just received these panels after a two year wait and just haven't taken the car apart to install them. * New Carpet * New kick panels from Harry Samuels Interiors * Steering column swapped to 4-speed column with correct shift indicator block off. * Factory radio converted to FM * NOS steering wheel with no cracks! Exterior: * Coker radial wide white tires * New wheel clips * Correct 1961 small hub caps * NOS front grills * Rechromed front and rear bumpers * NOS taillight housings Factory Options: * White Tires * Heater and Defroster *Radio & Antenna *Windshield Washer * Dual speed electric wipers * Custom foam cushion - front * Instrument panel pad * Air Cleaner * Inside non-glare mirror * Decor group * Back-up Lamps * Power Steering * Power Brakes * E-Z Eye Tinted Glass * Spare Wheel Cover This car is for sale locally and the auction may be ended early if it sells through other methods.
