Description of 1965 Pontiac Tempest |
1965 Pontiac Tempest Custom This car has been stored inside for the past seven years. It was restored by a father and son in 1997, riven as a daily driver for a few years, hen as a weekend/pleasure car for several more. I bought the car a few years ago with the intent of fully restoring it. Originally a 326 2bbl, utomatic- the car now has a 355 small block Chevy with double hump heads. I personally am not a fan of this conversion, ut I can say it was done right, nd very clean. The engine was a fresh rebuild during the restoration. The engine internals and top end were a pre-matched kit from Edelbrock, eaturing an aluminum intake, mall Edelbrock 4bbl, nd a slightly aggressive cam. The engine seems very fresh still, as great oil pressure, oesn't leak anything, nd has a real nice musclecar sound. The original paint color is Reef Turquoise, t is now painted more of an aqua blue. Prior to being stored inside the car started to get some rust in the rear quarter panels, retty significant on the drivers side, ot so bad on the passenger. There is also some rust under the paint on both front fenders, n the bottom section in front of the doors. The bumpers are perfectly straight with no holes. The drivers side mirror is broken off (I do have it still), nd the rear window trim is not in place. All other chrome is in good re-chrome able condition and in place. Most of the original interior is gone. There is no back seat, he front seats are racing buckets. However, he dash is in excellent original condition, nd the original black door panels are in good shape also. Old school chrome face gauges were installed under the dash and look great(and function), s well as a Sunpro tach installed in the dash cluster. The floor pans are in excellent condition, here a two very small holes near the pedals. In summary, he car is a perfect candidate for a restoration. The frame and floor pans are in great shape, he body is straight and all original. If a restoration can't be done immediately, he car could be a daily driver again with a little work. It runs great and seems mechanically sound. When I bought the car it had no brakes, he wheel cylinders were old and leaking. I have replaced all the brake hardware, hoes, ll the wheel cylinders, nd most of the lines. I did this simply to be able to move the car around if I need to. The car does not have power brakes, nd any one familiar with these cars should know that the original brake setups were not good- this car is no exception. My honest suggestion for anyone considering buying this car and using it as a driver would be to enhance the brake system, here are so many good aftermarket upgrade kits available now, nd the prices are reasonable. I would also suggest taking the car to a reputable auto electrician to have the lights and accessories checked out. I have not noticed any electrical fire hazards, ut all the wiring is original still, nd I'd rather be safe than sorry with the wiring. I do not have a key to the trunk of the car, o unfortunately I can't give a good description of it. But, ince there is no back seat, he trunk area is accessible. Feel free to ask any questions regarding this car. I can provide delivery if in the Louisville, Y area, therwise please be able to provide transport for the car. The car does run and drive, ut it has not been on the road in over five years, o I would caution anyone from wanting to drive the car for any distance without giving the car a modest inspection. There will be a reserve set, ut it will be set below the estimated value! On Nov-20-15 at 13:54:51 PST, eller added the following information: Update 11/20/2015 Update 11/23/15 Immediately after the previous auction ended today, 1/23/15, Bay sent me a message that the winning bidder was a non registered eBay user and that the auction had to be voided. I am re listing the car with a buy it now price (at eBay's recommendation). I strongly feel the car is a steal at the buy it now price, nd still encourage any potential bidders to contact me with any questions about the car. |
