1968 became another major milestone for Pontiac as record sales and production records soared with over 940,000 cars produced, and the Pontiac GTO was chosen car of the year by Motor Trend magazine for being so successful in confirming the superb safety, style and performance. 1968 Also saw some very refined and modified styling changes. Gone was the boxy styling and in were the more elegant rounded lines, which followed the GTO into the 1970's. 1968 GTO models included many standard features, amongst some of the features were dual exhaust, sporty suspension, redline tires, bucket seats, ignition alarm, ash tray and courtesy lamps, deluxe steering wheel and hidden headlamps and windshield wipers, steel reinforced rubber front bumper, twin hood scoops replaced the previous years single hood scoop and distinctive styling tail lamps. in great condition with no major imperfections to be found. Inside, the red vinyl seats all look great with normal visible wear including the door panels and dashboard that are matched to the exterior of the car and show the same wear. The Pontiac GTO is an automobile that was built by Pontiac from 1964 to 1974. The first generation GTO was a muscle car of the 1960s and 1970s era. Although there were earlier muscle cars, the Pontiac GTO is considered by some to have started the trend with all four domestic automakers offering a variety of competing models. General Motors redesigned its A-body line for 1968, with more curvaceous, semi-fastback styling. Pontiac abandoned the familiar vertically stacked headlights in favor of a horizontal layout, but made hidden headlights available at extra cost. The concealed headlights were a popular option. The signature hood scoop was replaced by dual scoops on either side of a prominent hood bulge extending rearward from the protruding nose. A unique feature was the body-color Endura front bumper. It was designed to absorb impact without permanent deformation at low speeds. he 1968 model year was also the last year the GTOs offered separate crank operated front door vents. another feature was concealed windshield wipers, hidden below the rear edge of the hood. They presented a cleaner appearance. Another popular option, actually introduced during the 1967 model year, was a hood-mounted tachometer, located in front of the windshield and lit for visibility at night. The GTO was selected Motor trend Car of the Year in 1968. This extremely good looking and well equipped GTO, defies showing it’s age! This fine example comes equipped with a Aluminum intake Edelbrock 4 barrel, (1965 YC code) 389 cid V8 engine,Turbo Hydro-matic automatic transmission, his and hers Hurst shifter, power steering power brakes, air conditioning, tilt steering wheel, center console, Rally gauge cluster with clock, Safe-T-Track Rear axle, retractable headlights, hood mounted tachometer, Rally II wheels with 14″ Red line wide oval tires.
