PHS Documentation SELLER REMARKS Cars like this 1968 Pontiac Firebird convertible make you realize just how perfectly designed the original F-bodies really were. I mean. this is one gorgeous car with great proportions and a powerful look. all tucked into a right-sized footprint that's easy to maneuver yet can easily handle a lot of horsepower. Add in a top that goes down and you get a car that will make the driver smile more than the onlookers. Compared to their Chevy cousins. Firebirds are rather rare. um. birds. This handsome convertible doesn't take many liberties with the original design aside from the silver paint. which wasn't on the original color wheel. At this point. it doesn't really matter because the car looks awesome. showing off clean flanks. good panel alignment. and a great shine that only comes after a lot of time-intensive hand labor. There are no fake scoops. no wings. no spoilers to interrupt the clean Firebird lines and the shiny wrap-around bumper/grille assembly was ground-breaking in its day and still attractive today. Correct emblems have been installed throughout. including the cool Pontiac chevron side marker lights in back. and chrome trim always looks fantastic against silver paint. It's pretty easy to fall in love with this car. Basic black always works well. and in the Pontiac's interior. it provides an awesome contrast to the silver paint. Even better. Pontiac's upscale burled walnut trim remains intact. so it has some warmth that a lot of other cars seem to lack. The seat covers are surely reproductions that capture the original look. while things like the door panels and dash pad are probably really nice originals. Factory gauges look crisp and clear behind their unique pointed lenses and the three-spoke steering wheel is a Pontiac variation on an old favorite. You'll note an auxiliary gauge down low above the console. as well as the original AM radio in the dash which is about due for a replacement. Pontiac-logo floor mats front and rear help keep everything looking tidy. and there's a correct reproduction trunk mat that fits remarkably well. Overhead. a black power convertible top fits incredibly well and offers a crystal clear plastic rear window. Pontiac's stout 350 cubic inch V8 is a fast. fun engine in your convertible. Dressed in proper corporate turquoise engine enamel. it looks right sitting in the Firebird's engine bay. A chrome open-element air cleaner wears a correct 350-4 decal and there's an Edelbrock intake and matching 4-barrel carburetor to help eke out a few extra horsepower. Power steering and brakes were popular on the early F-bodies. so this one is easy to drive in traffic and around town. and this has the added bonus of 4-wheel discs. It has also been treated to a 700R4 4-speed automatic overdrive transmission. so it's punchy around town yet cruises easily at 70 MPH even with 3. 73 gears on a Safe-T-Track limited slip. Cast iron exhaust manifolds feed a newer exhaust system with a Flowmaster transverse muffler. so it has a very unique sound and it rides on Rallye II wheels and a set of reproduction F70-14 Goodyear Wide Tread bias-ply tires for a true '60s look and feel. A neat ragtop with lots of performance and a user-friendly price tag and we'll throw in the good looks for free.
