NC 28269Lets get to the point and answer your first question: yes. this is a real deal Special Edition 50th Anniversary Trans Am. Unfortunately the assembly plant didnt stamp the Y82 code on the body tag (not all SE cars did) and the build sheet has probably been lost with the original owner or since been deteriorated. but we do have a copy of the original invoice from PHS matching the VIN with this 1976 Pontiac Trans AM verifying it to be an SE optioned car. Of course. Starlight Black paint is correct to the car and the look is instantly identifiable as a Pontiac Trans Am. The black paint has probably seen a re-spray sometime in its history. but really presents well overall. The doors. hood. and trunk fit quite well. and while some of the early cars had Hurst T-tops. youre really better off without them since they were prone to leaking (hence the reason they were discontinued). Correct gold stripes. decals and accents are present. including the gold headlight inserts and TRANS AM in German script on the rear spoiler. front fenders. and above the grill. Gold honeycomb wheels complete the SE package for the unmistakable and iconic look. Inside. the gold and black theme continues. with the most dramatic element being the gold anodized dashboard. Still machine-turned like many of the other famous models. it definitely makes a statement. especially with the matching gold anodized steering wheel spokes. Black bucket seats and a split rear bench providing 2+2 seating. are covered in glossy black vinyl. and are in simply spectacular condition. The door panels show only modest signs of father time. all the instruments are crisply marked without any of the usual age-related fading and cloudy lenses. This SE came with factory A/C and even the factory clock still spins its dials at it should. The only noteworthy upgrade is an Alpine AM/FM/CD stereo that is powered by a JL Audio amplifier and sends tunes to 6x9 Boston speakers. Under the hood is Pontiacs mighty 400 cubic inch V8. which. at the time. was still putting out the kind of horsepower and torque that made the Trans Am a legend in its time. That big hood scoop is functional and was intimidating as heck in 1976. and the big V8 rumbles with an authoritative bark that acts as an additional warning. The engine wears correct Pontiac Turquoise paint and all the details are pretty much untouched except for a polished alternator and master cylinder lid. Its backed by a 3-speed automatic transmission and a 10 bolt rear end. while power steering and power brakes with discs up front make driving this Trans Am an absolute blast!Still standing out with an iconic presence today. this 1976 Trans Am SE is certainly a collectors piece.
