Description of 1970 Pontiac Trans Am |
Owned by its current owner (who has collected cars since the early 1950's) since about 1972, this Trans Am has never been officially titled for road use. According to him, a good friend whom I have known for over 30 years, this early production 1970 1/2 Trans Am was delivered to GM Engineering in Oshawa Ontario Canada when new and used as a test mule. Originally delivered in White with Blue interior, the car was repainted Silver and the Ram-Air hood was removed to make the car less conspicuous when road-driven by the GM engineering team. After about a year of use, the car was transferred to Terry Godsall, of the Titus/ Godsall Trans Am Racing Team, where it remained - but was never raced or developed as a race car - until acquired by its current owner about a year later. The car has remained in storage with very little road use ever since. Most of the original 39000 miles on this car were driven before 1972, when in the care of GM engineering and the Godsall-Titus Trans-Am Race Team. During its years in storage, the car was not started for several years, necessitating an engine rebuild about 5 years ago. It was repainted in its original Polar White paint, and the Ram Air hood was re-fitted about a year later, but it hasn't been driven except for a few test miles since. This is your opportunity to own a low mileage, early version of the 2nd year Trans Am, and the 1st year of the most popular 2nd generation body. There are lots more photos available and I will work with bidders to try and answer all questions to the best of my ability. The car is available for inspection by bidders or their representatives with prior arrangement. Features: This car has a prototype manual sliding metal sunroof which was installed to GM factory production standards, but was never available as a factory item. The sunroof was installed sometime before 1972. Delivered new from the USA to Canada and invoiced to General Motors of Canada Ltd. in Oshawa Ontario on the 1st of April 1970, it was equipped as follows: Polar White Paint, with the Custom Blue Knit/Vinyl interior, and the L74 400 cu.in. 4-Barrel Ram Air III, with the 4-Speed manual transmission with Hurst Floor Shift. It was equipped with the following additional options: - Performance Axle- Tilt Steering Wheel- Convenience Lamps- Heavy Duty Radiator- Roof Moulding- Stereo Radio- Rear Window Defogger- Door Edge Guards- Custom Trim- Anti-Freeze (Yes. That was an OPTION back then!) |
