Description of 1971 Pontiac Grand Prix

Up for sale is a 1971 Pontiac Grand Prix.
This is a South Carolina car. I'm originally from South Carolina. There is very minimal rust in this car. It was restored back in 1995. I moved up to Iowa 12 years ago and have stored the car in a heated and air conditioned garage. I've been the owner of this car for a lot of years... this is a daily driver car and not a show car, but a little work and it can be.
If you're possibly looking for a very light restoration project over the winter, this might be it.
This is what I call a "20 footer" car... looks good 20 feet away and will turn a lot of heads going down the road or parked, but there are flaws in the paint. The vinyl top is as good as it was when I installed it 8 years ago. Although the odometer shows 46,550, I know that this is not original mileage, since I've turned it over 100,000 back in 1992.
Being a 46 year old car, this is in no means a new car, and has some of the "old car" problems. There are no warranties with the sale of this Grand Prix. Overall, this car is in very good condition for its age. I've driven this car to my home state of South Carolina from Iowa back in 2010 and again in 2013 with no issues whatsoever.
The car doesn't have any body filler in it. You can stick a magnet to any area of the car and it will stick. The car was stripped down in 1995 and glazed to smooth out any ripples at the time, but no filler to fill any damage. The driver's side rear quarter was at one time repaired with filler that had damage prior to me owning it, but when we stripped the car, we removed the filler and tin cans found to "fix" it, and welded new, correct gauge sheet metal.
A couple of items I want to mention concerning this car -
- I do have the car listed locally, and reserve the right to end the auction at any time.
- I added electrical gauges in the ceiling above the rear view mirror. They're mounted by the bolt holding the mirror. If you don't want them, they come out easily and no won't be able to tell they were even there.
- I added a bluetooth JVC stereo with hands free capabilities when making or receiving calls. There's also a 12 disk CD player connected to the deck mounted in the trunk.
- I have the original build sheet for this car - found under the original carpet padding. It purchased new in Greenville, SC
- New interior 10 years ago (sound deadening, firewall pad, carpet, vinyl seats, headliner). A headrest did get scratched by a cat and needs recovering.
- All new seals 10 years ago - door seals, window seals, and trunk seal. Still look brand new
- One minor crack in the dash about 1 inch long. There's a fitted dash cover to protect it
- Original Clock still works
- Pontiac 400 engine rebuilt in 1996. Lightly bored .30 over at the time. Has an Edelbrock intake, correct 1971 Rochester Quadrajet. I installed an electric choke and wired it up, but may need to be adjusted. The block is a 1973 block with 1973 4X large valve shaved heads.
- TH400 transmission rebuilt in 2014
- All new tires in 2015
- Pontiac hood tach in 1995 - works great
- This is an A/C car. Within the past 10 years, I installed a new condenser and evaporator core, but never recharged the system - it does have a light vacuum leak - I suspect the seals around the compressor, and it would need to be wired.
- 10 bolt 3.73 rear end - not posi-traction
- Very minor rust on body in the normal GP areas. No rust under the vinyl top. A nickle size bubble at the bottom corner of the passenger door & quarter, 2 bubble spots on the hood near the cowl (common areas on 69-72 GP's), a couple of very small bubbles at the trim on the sail panels, and a couple of minor bubbles on the passenger rear wheel well lip.
- No rust in floor pans
- No rust in trunk floors
- Bumpers are straight
- Body is solid
- Several other parts I have will go with this car... spare trim, rally II rims (14"), a couple of dash wiring harnesses that aren't fully complete, and some other odds and ends.- The rope seal in the rear main has had a slight drip in it for about 10 years... rope seals leaking in Pontiac engines is a regular occurrence, and hasn't really bothered me too much- The blower motor works from a toggle switch... I hadn't taken the time to figure out the problem
- All receipts I have since the mid 1990's will go with the car.
I unfortunately had to relist the car because the winning bidder wasn't able to follow through with the payment terms, so the winning auction had to be cancelled. If you win the car, I'm willing to sell the car to you - I request the winning bidder follow through with the payment guidelines.*** Please be sure to read the "Shipping and Payment" section in the auction. $500 deposit via PayPal, with remaining balance paid by cash in person, personal check, or cashier's check. All checks will be verified before the car and title are transferred to you. Shipping - if you need to have the car shipped to you, Ebay offers shippers for you to choose from, or you can set up your own shipper to get the car, either way, the winning bidder is responsible for shipping.
If you have any additional questions, please let me know.
Serious inquiries only.
