Here's the ultimate 1968 GTO convertible find. Ready to go for this summer! 22 Factory PHS Documented Options Full frame off restoration, show quality turn- key car. Less then 500 miles since restoration. The car was professionally restored by a Pontiac Specialty Shop and is correct to every nut and bolt. The car started as a mostly rust free original car with all the original drive train. It was built with the following factory PHS documented options: 400 H.O. Engine 360 HP Automatic Trans with Dual Gate Shifter AM/FM Radio 8 Track Tape Player Hidden Headlights LH Remote Mirror In Dash Tachometer and Rally Gauges Deluxe Wire Wheel Discs Console Exhaust Extensions Power Deck Lid Release Power Steering Power Brakes Tilt Steering Wheel Tinted Glass - All Windows Power Windows Power Seat Head Rests Reclining RH Seat Air Conditioning Cornering Lamps Luggage Lamps Added factory options during the restoration: M20 4 Speed with factory Hurst Shifter and 4 speed console Disc Brakes (factory '69 Style) Rally II wheels - correct 14x6 Deluxe Seat Belts Custom Sport Wood Wheel GTO Walnut Shift Knob 3:36 Saf T Track Posi Rear The car was completely disassembled and media blasted inside and out. The minor rust was cut out and patched using custom made patches and butt welded in. The body was then epoxy primed, the underside sanded and painted correct 60% gloss black. The frame was disassembled and painted correct 70% gloss black and re assembled with all new bushings, ball joints, steering linkage, brake lines, fuel lines and clips. The body was then assembled back on the frame with all new body mounts and bolts. The body was then completely assembled and adjusted for the best possible fit and gaps. The minimal body work was done as an assembly then 3 coats of DuPont 2K primer were applied. The car then sat for a month for proper drying time. The primer was then blocked to perfection using 120, 220, 320, 400 then wet sanded with 600 grit papers. The body was then disassembled and painted using the DuPont Chroma Premier Paint System. Top of the line 72200 Clear was used. 5 coats of base and 5 coats of clear were applied. The body was then wet sanded with 600,1000,1500, 2000 and 2500 grit papers. Then it was buffed with 3M compound and Polish. There is over 60 hours in the wet sanding and buffing alone. The original YZ code 400 engine was bored .030 over, shot peened and magnifluxed, align honed, crank turned .010, new forged pistons, resized rods, balanced and blue printed. A new melling oil pump, freeze plugs and cam bearings were also installed. The heads were completely rebuilt using new valves, springs, hardened seats and a correct 30 degree valve job was performed. The cam is a stock "068" HO cam installed 4 degrees advanced. The carburetor is the correct 7028268 Q Jet re jetted up for better performance. The exhaust is a "stock" 2 1/4 alumized with factory HO exhaust manifolds. The 68 coded M20 Trans was completely rebuilt using new bearings, syncro rings and seals. The case was bead blasted. The car has a stock 10.5" clutch with a stock cast flywheel. The shifter is Hurst Competition Plus with the correct round stick handle. The differential was rebuilt with a factory 3:36 gear and Posi unit. All new bearings and seals were used. The wheels are original 14X6 Rally IIs painted the correct colors. New PMD caps and correct brushed GM trim rings are installed. NOS black center lug nuts were used. The tires are correct G70 14 Firestone Wide Oval Redlines. The spare is a radial tire. The car has a new headlight harness, engine harness, trunk harness, spring ring battery cables and a nice original dash harness. The power windows are fully operational with rebuilt motors. The power seat does work but it is slow. The interior is Legendary brand with new lower bucket seat springs, ACI foams, door panels, quarter trim panels, ACC molded carpet, and nice original bucket seat trim. The dash bezel is re chromed with new wood grain, the 8 track and AM FM have been professionally serviced and are working. Currently there is no antenna installed. The custom sport Wood Wheel is a very nice original and is the original tilt steering column. The convertible top frame was painted correct 60% gloss and a new KeeTop, well, pads and glass rear window were installed. New hydraulic pump, lines and lift cylinders were also installed. The trim is a combination of original and reproduction. The rear bumper is a nicely rec homed original. The hidden headlights are fully functional but slow. The grilles are nice restored originals. The factory AC is all complete and assembled with a new harness, condenser, compressor and lines but was never charged. We can make it operational for an extra fee. The car comes with the original TH400 Automatic trans, pedal assembly and drive shaft but the console and shifter are long gone. There is well over $85,000 invested in this restoration.
