Description of 1968 Pontiac GTO Convertible |
Selling my 1968 Pontiac GTO 4 Speed Convertible. This is a PHS documented car, all PHS papers are included with the sale. I've owned this car for 15 years, prior to that my best friend owned the car since 1984. He bought the car from the original owner. I finished a no expense spared, frame off, ground up, nut and bolt restoration about 5 years ago and have been enjoying the car ever since. This car is all numbers matching, including exhaust and intake manifolds, heads, quadrajet carb, Muncie M-21 4 speed transmission, 3:55 Posi-Traction rear end, etc. The car is restored back to original factory condition, right down to the hose clamps, plug wires, radiator hoses, vacuum hoses, etc. Even the ($1,100) Gardner exhaust system is an exact copy of the original GM system, so the car sounds exactly as it did the day it was driven off the showroom floor in 1968. I have hundreds of photographs documenting the restoration as well as file folders full of receipts and paperwork. All of this info will be included with the sale of the car. This car came from the factory with the rare Blue on Blue color combination. Options include a factory Dash Tachometer, Power Top, Power Antenna, Rosewood Sport Steering Wheel, Center Console, Enduro Bumper with Hideaway Headlights, Rally II 15" Wheels, Chrome Exhaust Tips, and Factory Front Disc Brakes. The only thing that I upgraded was that I added an OEM power steering box and pump, and an OEM power brake booster set up. The car originally had manual steering and the front factory disc brakes and rear drum brakes were also manual. There is an audio system in the car. It utilizes the factory dash speaker locations as well as a small bass speaker and amplifier located in the trunk. There is a hidden toggle switch located under the dash that powers the audio system. I use my iPhone or an MP3 player as the head unit. The system sounds amazing and is not wired into the factory harness or radio in any way, so no factory wiring has been cut or altered nor have there been any holes cut anywhere. The car has appeared in dozens of car shows, 30 plus parades, several TV commercials, as well as a 2015 Hollywood produced movie named 'Life of Crime' starring Jennifer Anniston and Tim Robbins. The last 4 pictures are from the movie itself, and the movie shoot days. Notice the period correct Michigan plates the production crew put on the car. This GTO runs and drives perfectly down the road. It has never let me down in any way, I would not hesitate to drive cross country in the car. It's a beautiful car that attracts a tremendous amount of attention wherever I drive it. The car is located about 15 miles east of Hartford, CT. Please contact me if you have any questions or if you would like to see the car prior to the end of the auction. Thanks, Chris |
