Up for Auction with NO RESERVE is my 1991 Pontiac Trans Am GTA 454 Big Block Project. Purchased in 2005 as a complete running car originally equipped with a tuned port SBC. In 2009 I had a low mileage (approx 70k miles) stock 454 BBC with 4L80E transmission out of a 1991 Chevy SS pick up installed. In 2010 I wanted more power/torque and so the drive train came out again. After the second build I drove it on a 100 mile trip to my summer home. At 60-70 mph I would punch the pedal and still spin the wheels. I was extremely happy with the power/torque and was ready for paintwork as well as an upgraded rear end. To my disappointment I went to start her up one day and engine would only give a half a crank and no more. I had a local guy check it out. He swore he tried to manually turn the flywheel and it was frozen. I didn't believe him. I got disgusted and left her in my garage then driveway for a few years. I recently noticed the floor pans beginning to rust from sitting and so it was time to tow it back to the city where my regular mechanic took a crack. Starter was the problem. Replaced with a new BBC starter. He drained the oil, disconnected fuel line and got her her running by pouring fuel into directly into the carb. With the new starter she will crank and turn but sluggish. It's possible a high torque starter is needed but I can't be sure. Only 150 miles on new build.
