Description of 1981 Pontiac Trans Am -- |
Stk 2338 1981 Pontiac Trans-Am In 1980 due to increasing emissions restrictions Pontiac stopped all production of their large displacement engines. In their place they designed a 4.9L Turbo Charged (RPO-LU-8) motor. This 301ci V8 was only produced for the 1980 and 1981 Trans AM and was rated at 200bhp and 340 lb/ft of torque. Our restored 1981 Trans Am T-code coupe was the beneficiary of this powerplant. The owner states that it is a 3-owner fully restored (2014) Trans Am with actual mileage of 65285. The Bright Blue Metallic finish (w/'Bird') was professionally applied and 18"/20" American Racing alloy wheels provide a stunning accent. (A set of factory Turbo Wheels w/brand new BFG radials are also included.) A totally restored vinyl interior contains a center console 3-spoke wheel 'turned' dash and full gauge package. Convenience features include: A/C power steering cruise tilt wheel tinted glass and Kenwood AM/FM/Cassette stereo system. Under the Turbo hood we are told that the 4.9L engine has never required a rebuild. This was a well-designed performance engine with beefed-up block forged pistons high capacity oil pump and baffled oil pan. A Garrett TBO-305 Turbo was mounted on a single plane intake and received fuel from an 800CFM Rochester Quadrajet equipped with the Power Enrichment Valve Regulator (PERV) feature. The factory waste-gate settings will limit boost to 9 psi but can easliy be adjusted to higher levels. Fire was provided by a GM Electronic Spark Controller (ESC) system. A 350C Turbo Hydra-matic 3-speed automatic gearbox w/lock-up was standard in 1981. It transferred power to a differential with 3.08:1 gearing. Braking was power-assist 4-wheel disc. This Trans AM is an outstanding example of late Gen2 performance and should be in your Poncho collection. The owner will consider possible trades. ALL VEHICLES SOLD "AS IS". |
