Description of 1988 Pontiac Fiero BASE |
This gem sat for 20 years. I bought this car new, in May of 1988 for my mom, for $8,600 or so. I was going to re do this car in the FORMULA YELLOW, add a 2007 eco teck 2.2l or 2.4 4 cylinder (155 to 175 hp), but life got in the way. I replaced the clutch at about 30,000 miles, as the pressure plate would not disengage, then the "in the tank" fuel pump failed, and I only recently removed the tank to replace the pump, as I added a car lift to my garage this year. I replaced the driver side door skin with one from an '86 (same color) as it was damaged in a parking lot. I also used the trunk lid from the '86, 'cus the spoiler looks way cooler then a luggage rack. Their is a crack in the windshield, but does not effect driving. I added about 10oz of Freon to the ac system, IT COOLS, but it is going to need at more r12. The tires are like new, WITH GUARDSMEN ON THE FRONT, AND TOYO'S ON THE BACK. The finish on this car is mostly good, and I tried to point out the flaws in the pictures. The trim over the a/c ducks lost it's grip, I repaired it with finishing screws. (see pick) THE SPOILER WILL NEED TO RE-FINISHED. IF YOU WOULD PREFER THE LUGGAGE RACK TRUNK LID, LET ME KNOW. The roof liner on the passenger side is sagging but not torn. I nave heard of spray in adhesives that can be injected to repair. No tobacco or other offensive orders have EVER been used in this car.THE battery is refurbished, but works fine.I recently drove the car for about a month, as my pickup would not pass smog.It ran great, felt tight WITH SUPERB HANDLING. THE LOTUS TUNED SUSPENSION WAS ONLY AVAILABLE IN THE '88, and it shows. NOTE: After replacing the fuel pump, I also replaced the fuel and air filter, pulled the spark plugs and injected a 1/4 ounce of Mystery Oil in each cylinder. Then I cranked the engine on battery, to re-lube the cylinder walls.Lastly, I replaced the valve cover gasket AND SPARK PLUGS. NOTE: you will need to re-torque the valve cover bolts after about 60 days. Located in Boise Idaho, I am confident this car could be driven to parts unknown, and would be happy to pick you up at the AIR PORT. HOWEVER: THE CAR IS BEING SOLD AS IS, WITH NO WARRANTY. THANKS FOR LOOKING. |
