Description of 1940 Pontiac Torpedo Series 29 Cloth |
I am selling my 1940 Pontiac Torpedo. This car is GM C-body car, a style shared with Buick, Cadillac and Oldsmobile, its main design features increased interior room but no running boards. It's been restored in the past and is in a well maintained driver quality condition. It's a reliable and fun to drive; taken to shows on the weekends. The car has the original drivetrain; 249ci straight eight cylinder engine with 103 hp and a 3 speed manual transmission. The engine pulls strongly through the gears and never any smoke from the tailpipe and there is no miss from the engine. It has the original braking system and has been recently gone through by replacing the master cylinder, all slave cylinders and the front shoes. The radiator has been re-cored, water pump and thermostat replaced. The coolant, engine oil, transmission oil and rear end fluid have all been recently changed. The car steers very wheel with period correct wide whites tires which are in great shape. With the exception of the radio, all gauges work, however the clock is not working. In the last 6 months the wiring system has been replaced with a factory correct cloth coated wire loom and all grounds thoroughly cleaned. I have receipts for most all repairs! There is no rust at all on this car. The suspension is in good order with all the zerk type suspensions points recently lubed. The original drive line and rear end works as designed. The car has no rust and the trunk has a full size spare. This car has been re-painted at some point in the recent past. The paint is quite lustrous making any owner happy to wax this beauty. A paint condition called crows feet has developed along the body weld lines behind the right and left rear 1/4 windows wrapping around to the rear window. However the paint has a smooth lustrous glass finish. All chrome is in perfect shape ie: not pitting, peeling, or rust. The exterior stainless strips are in excellent shape. If you want an affordable classic representing a great piece of history this is the car for you. The car is constantly admired by many folks and I know a lot of history on this car I don't want to sell her and maintaining its originality has been my goal, but it's time for someone else to enjoy her.Buyer is responsible for shipping. There's no warranty with the car and the car is sold as is! Thanks for your interest. Please note: I have extra parts that are not included with the sale. |
