A TRUE MUST SEE

This 1965 Pontiac GTO comes from a private collection of some of the most rarest muscle cars of all time. The owner of the collection spent the majority of his life searching for and collecting muscle cars from the height of its era. The time has come to start liquidating his collection and windle it down from about 50 to a more manageable 10. You'll notice as you scroll through the pictures below I've included some pictures of the massive collection(last 5 photos) and you are more than welcomed to inquire about other cars he has in his collection. Now, moving on to this 1965 Pontiac GTO.
So as there is a story with every vehicle owned from this era, this particular GTO has a very interesting past and quite an appearance to show for itself today. In 1965, the previous owner's parents bought a 1965 Pontiac GTO from their local Pontiac dealer and they ordered the car with some of the rarest options ever to come in a GTO. On the order sheet all the boxes were checked......

This GTO was going to be the last car the couple(parents) would buy new. For years they enjoyed this rare car and the plan was to drive it until the son(previous owner) got his license. The deal was, the parents would give the GTO to his son and he would enjoy it until he had kids and it would be passed on from generation to generation. It seemed as the parents knew that this was a special car and had the foresight to see its value, not only on the day they bought it, but for years and generations to come. Unfortunately during the son's senior year of high school, the GTO was stolen and never found again and since the boy was only a senior, he couldn't afford to buy another car that caliber so the GTO family legacy was short lived.
Years went by and the son wanted to do something nice for his parents before they died so he sought after this GTO for many years but could never find one with all the options his parent's GTO had, so he built his own. He purchased a TRUE 1965 GTO 4 Speed Convertible and restored it and added all the options his parents had ordered and made it look like the day they drove it out of the dealership. To accomplish this daunting task, it took 8 years and a boatload of money, but the end result gave his son closure to something he felt guilty about the majority of his life. His parents were able to see the car, drive the car and most importantly it took them back to a time where cars were considered part of the family. It was a bittersweet moment because in one hand it brought back memories of how special the car was and the joy it gave them and their son even though it was short lived....and on the other hand, it seemed as the a lifetime of memories were robbed from the family the day the car was stolen. Please read on to find out how this car was built and restored. Thank you for reading the history of this car and the reason why it was so important to the previous owner.....
Exterior:
This particular GTO started its life Fontaine Blue with a parchment interior. It came stock from the factory with a 389 cubic inch block with a 4 bbl Carburetor. It was stripped down, frame off rotisserie restoration. The chrome was rechromed also. Once the body and chrome were finished, then started the extensive collection of all the parts needed to make this an unbelievable build. The body was stripped and painted the Mayfair Maize Pontiac color, and a new black convertible top was installed. All rechromed bright work and bumpers were installed. All the trim was polished and buffed and the Hurst Wheels were located and installed. The car was now equipped with A/C. The body is straight and solid and the underneath was stripped and detailed with all new components. All the glass is in excellent condition and the red lined tires are like new. It hasn't been driven much since the restoration and you would be hard pressed to find any nicks or scratches or any blemishes for that matter. Please look at all the pictures and video and continue to read on about this build/restoration.
Interior:
When the car was stripped down the original parchment interior was changed to all black. All new seats, dash, door panels and carpets were all replaced. The wood grain wheel is an expensive option that was added. Also added were tilt wheel and power windows. While continuing with the wood grain upgrade, the dash was done to match, with all new gauges. the Hurst shifter was added along with the AM/FM radio with power antenna. The interior was fully redone and is in show condition. It truly is like stepping back in time and buying one new. Please read on continuing with the details of this build. View all the pictures and video below.
Drive-Train:
The most critical and crucial to making this build right was to find a period correct true WS block that was date coded as close as it can be to the origination date of the car. The motor was rebuilt and detailed and the legendary Pontiac Tri-Power was added to the match the WS coding. As mentioned earlier the car had the factory A/C added into the car. Under the hood was painstakingly gone through to make it look and match coming off the assembly line. All new driveline components were reinstalled. NOS Pontiac parts were used throughout and if they couldn't locate NOS parts, the original parts were restored . The car runs beautiful and the engine is smooth and powerful, the 4 speed transmission shifts smooth and precise. The posi trac rear provides plenty of torque. No matter which way you look at this car, in and out, up or down it is truly one bad Pontiac GTO.
VERY IMPORTANT:
The previous owner even took the extra step to match the trim tag with the options it has currently. He wanted it to be as authentic as possible. So if the car were ever judged it will all match, options = trim tag. The only way to tell what this GTO original came with was running the vin #. There are a lot of GTO's out there that were made pro street or restored non numbers matching, but you would be hard press to find another GTO like this and the attention to detail to make this GTO a very special car. A true GTO with this pedigree and options would value at over $100,000 +!! Now is your chance to own the next best thing and not pay full ticket.
