Description of 1964 Pontiac Le Mans GTO Clone

This is the car that started it all. The GTO was only a trim package on the Pontiac Lemans in 1964, but it was so darn popular, it elevated Pontiac into the upper-echelon of the incoming muscle car phenomenon. This particular example was fully restored within the last year and features a freshly built, YT-code 400 V8 GTO motor, slick Aqua paint, and a gorgeous bucket seat interior. A personal favorite of many employees here at Streetside Classics, this '64 GOAT has us all considering extra garage space.
Recently finished in lovely Gulfstream Aqua metallic paint (an upgrade over the original code S Saddle Bronze that this '64 was born with) this is the car everyone thinks of when you imagine the first muscle car. Clean, uncluttered styling and a big V8 under the hood make the first GTO a favorite with collectors as well as with people who like to have a good time behind the wheel, and this facsimile offers all the same perks. Bodywork is very impressive for a car in this price range, with laser-straight panels and good gaps throughout. Cool chrome hood inserts inside the new fiberglass hood give it a suitably racy look, the iconic grille up front let's everyone know there's a legend in the rear view, and three simple letters on the deck lid let everyone know what had just humiliated them in the stop light grand prix. Chrome and trim are very good, with a bright shine that fits the car's personality just right. We can almost guarantee that there's nobody out there who can look at this car as it's cruising down the road and not want to follow it for miles. That's the beautiful drama of the GTO.
The handsome black bucket seat interior was Pontiac at the top of its game, stylish yet functional. Restored mostly back to stock with a few choice upgrades, it's an incredibly comfortable and sporty place to spend some time. A factory 3-spoke steering wheel adds some warmth to the interior, as well as that European flavor John Z. DeLorean was looking for in the GTO, and the factory center console let's everyone know that this is a very special car. Inside that awesome machine-turned dash bezel is an array of factory gauges, and they've been augmented with a trio of aftermarket units below, and the restorer's thoughtfully added an upgraded radio inside the glove compartment, leaving the original AM unit in its factory spot in the dash. Like most '64 Ponchos, options are sparse, although with this beauty comes an underdash A/C unit that's perfect for those long summer cruises. The overall effect is stylish, upscale, and definitely sporty, everything they hoped the GTO would be and more. In back, the trunk is neatly finished with correct mats and a matching spare tire.
Although the GTO carried the top-of-the-line 389, this Lemans comes with a freshly built 400 cubic inch V8 borrowed from a 1968 GTO, and it's visually very similar to its older brother. Featuring 16 heads and an .030 overbore, it makes plenty of horsepower and was dressed for success with finned valve covers and a chrome air cleaner atop the carb. Pontiac Turquoise engine enamel enhances the illusion and with both power steering and front disc brakes, this GOAT is fun to drive no matter who you are. The condition of the inner fenders and firewall suggest that this car has never been in a snowy climate, and the tidy undercarriage shows clean floors and no signs of structural rust anywhere. Pontiac still used a version of the PowerGlide 2-speed automatic transmission, but here you'll find a fresh TH400 3-speed automatic transmission with a 2k stall convertor to handle all the extra power. 14-inch Mag wheels are a period-correct addition and wear fat 225/70/14 BFGoodrich T/A radials to finish off the look.
Offered with its original Protect-O-Plate and paperwork from when it was purchased new in OK, this 2-owner Pontiac is believed to have only 51,506 actual miles. Whether that pedigree is correct or not, the host of upgrades and beautiful restoration of this GOAT guarantee a great time behind the wheel anyway. Call today!
