Description of 1988 Pontiac Trans Am GTA |
If you clicked on it, you know what you are in the market for. Classic 1980's American Muscle car. I searched eBay before listing, seems like there are only perfect low mile original cars or highly modded ones. Prices ranged from $20k to $60k. This car is not perfect, so priced lower. But it is unique and well on it's way to being a stunning car. It may have started life in Florida, but spent a huge chunk of time in rust free Arizona. True GTA, I only have original side emblems which come with car, front is new and no sail birds. While painting it I sanded through the last red paint job and saw the shadows where the original sail birds were. Dash has correct GTA, correct gold bird on back and drivers headlight did have gold Pontiac logo, included with sale. The paint is a base coat, clear coat system like a modern car. It is satin black, not flat as that is too dull. 3 coats of clear for years of sun protection. I did door jambs, gas cap area and hatch. Each custom touch I added is subtle, but impactful. Starting with the DRL lights you see in the photos. Upper amber lights are light bars hidden behind the stock housings and blink correctly with turns signals. Lower fog lights remain, and work correctly but hidden in front are highly visible bright white DRL's. I kept the original red side emblems, but did not install them, as I like the clean look better. The original "aero" spoiler was long gone as they all swell and must be replaced. I choose a 4th generation Trans Am high rise fiberglass spoiler which fits perfectly and has a working 3rd brake light. Under the stock halogen signature Trans Am tail lights is a 60" LED bar which has amber lights that transition from middle to sides. Additionally they light up brightly under breaking and unbelievably bright for backing up. The strip covers the stock red reflective area I always thought looked too bright for such dark tail lights. Finally I changed the wheels from the traditional gold to color shifting painted wheels. Using custom pearls they shift from black to gold to red, see photos. When moving it is unreal and cool. Mechanically the only modifications is an adjustable fuel pressure regulator, operates as stock unless you choose to adjust it. The second mechanical mod is a cool feature modern car's have, mild to wild or NPP style exhaust. Basically it has a straight through muffler that with a flip of a switch closes to be quieter. The muffler is off a 2015 Z28 Camaro. Inside it is amazingly nice and stock. I did swap the awful 1988 steering wheel full of useless buttons for the 1987 GTA wheel. Nothing was cut to install the front Cerwin Vega speakers or the added sub boxes and amp in back. A new Bluetooth audio and hands free phone type stereo was installed, that looks retro. I added the rear rollup luggage cover, rarely found in used cars. No rips or stains in seats, headliner in good shape etc. It shows very well. I found and replaced or upholstered anything needed to make a complete experience. I upgraded all Digital Dash light bulbs to beautiful LED's. Speaking of the dash... All lights and gauges, functions etc do work, but the dash is not always lit up. Gauges continue to function, just without backlighting. Maintenance. Good news for you I am a mechanic and took care of a lot, see below.New: Oil and filterCoolantAC ChargeSpark Plugs and wiresAll 4 discs and padsFlushed brake fluidFront wheel bearingsAdjustable Fuel pressure regulatorNPP Camaro Z28 Muffler The bad, yes it still needs new shocks. I choose not to do this step as most owners will want something custom, either coil overs, lowering springs, etc. Buyers choice... Either drive it and enjoy this flash to the past or LS swap it making a true terror for the streets. Please ask any and all questions. This is my 8th F-body, selling it as I currently have 6 cars while living in an Apt. complex. Video link, copy and paste,https://youtu.be/mEtRRC3n9SU |
