Description of 1948 Pontiac Streamliner |
I've had this car in the family for over 20 years. The car steals the show everywhere I take it (although car is certainly not perfect). Mechanicals: The original straight six was removed and a 350 Chevy Small block along with a TH350 transmission was installed. Along with a 8.8 (so Im told) ford rear diff. The front brakes are disc (I believe from a 80s model GM ). There is a eldebrock (performer?) intake and a 4 barrel carburetor. The headers are ceramic coated shorties and the exhaust sounds great, deep and low (like a power boat). There is no power steering but the large wheel makes steering ok. The car is not a race car or drag car but it does get up and go, and cruise easily around 60-65 mph without issue. The car features a electric fan that is temp controlled. The car has been upgraded to 12volts. The car fires up everytime, quite reliable. The tires while displaying great amounts of tread are old (past there replacement dot date). There is no AC on this car. Stereo System":The stereo is made up of Boston Pro Series front Separates and Pro Series ( 2- 10" subs) in a sealed box. The amplifier is a 6 channel Eclipse amp. Head unit is a standard JVC (i think SH77) I need to let the next owner know that the paint job is likely over 30 years old and is showing its age.For this reason I listed areas where the paint has some serious lifting and chipping issues. The worst of these is just in front of the windshield on passenger side just rear of hood (cowl). I enjoy having a car thats not perfect, (no worries when parked at store), and the car from so many feet away does look amazing when viewed as a whole. The paint does feature the BassBoat Style huge flake metallic. The color combination is insanely gorgeous. I was told by previous owner that the car was featured on cover of Low Rider Magazine, but I do not have a copy or proof of this. Its definitely got that awesome California Latin Lowrider Vibe to it. Interior: THe interior was upgraded and reupholstered likely 30 years ago. The front seats are in good conditions, the rear bench is also, but the rear seatback (near the back window) has some splits/tears. The Flooring carpet was replaced but I feel its very poorly done. The dash and interior is in good shape and pretty much all original! The passenger door lock mechanism came off the other day, so I just ziplock bagged it and threw it in glove box. Clock on Glove box does not work. Gauges: the speedometer seems to work, the Fuel level gauge does not work. Some of the other gauges appear to work but there is some bouncing around and accuracy of voltmeter and temp gauges is unknown. The Ride: the power is good, the ride is very comfortable. I love driving this car around Springfield! Why am I selling it? As much as I love this car, I have some financial issues that need to be dealt with and for this reason the car must go.
