Description of 1990 Pontiac Firebird Formula |
1990 rare, rare, rare, rare (1 of 7 produced) Firebird Formula with 5.0 liter TPI V8 and 5 speed stick. 1990 was a short production year and if you ordered a Firebird Formula with the speed density high output (Horsepower 225 hp @ 4,400 rpm, Torque 300 lb-ft @ 3,200 rpm) 5.0 liter Tuned Port Injected V8 and the 5 speed manual, Pontiac gave you ALL the go-fast goodies from the factory. You got N10 dual cat converters, engine oil cooler, WS6 performance and handling package with 4 wheel disc brakes, 16x8 wheels, limited slip differential, and 3.45 rear gears. I bought the car 2 years ago with the intention of restoring it to full factory (needs paint, decals and light body work). Interior is in great condition, the only tear is on the center console lid. Has dark tint (previous owner) on driver's window and rear window and a Frankenstein junk stereo with boom box in the rear (previous owner). I have the original factory stereo. Dash is perfect, seats are perfect, needs a headliner when restoring but for now it's good. Needs a little TLC, a dent in the left side rear quarter near the reflector, wheels are great, new tires, engine is stock and pulls strong, 91k miles. AC was never switched over so will need switching and a recharge. NO FEAR decal on rear window adds 5hp (kept it for laughs). Rear spoiler has been replaced with a Hawks solid one piece, T-tops with storage bag (but no room in rear due to boom boom boom box). Headlights work (no spinning top disease), wipers bump but don't work (don't drive in rain so haven't fixed them yet, might be something that has come loose from the motor / wiper arms. Previous owner told me about this and it was on the list of things I was going to fix but never got around to it. Cruise control works fine No cracks in dash, seats are great (one tiny tear in back of driver's seat about an inch long), one tiny rip in center console (see pics). Looking at the options for 1990 Firebird Formula, (two tone black and silver, black cloth interior, 5.0 TPI 5 speed and T-tops, Comp 9 lists this car as one of five ever produced. In the book shown in the pictures, it's listed as one of seven but I believe Comp 9 is the correct number. In two years of searching, I've only found ONE of her sister cars and it was a parts missing corpse in an overgrown field out in the Midwest (RIP). Formulas with sticks are rare, let alone finding one in this condition that hasn't been abused by some lead-foot teenager or LS swapped by a racer boi. Motor is all stock down to the factory air box, has a Flowmaster clone muffler on it that's loud and righteous, new tires (previous owner) and a new water pump and distributor (me). Adult owned, never abused (I'm 54yo), I bought it as an investment and a restoration project but I just don't have the time or get the enjoyment out of it anymore. Currently garage stored in the condition it is in, driven occasionally in good weather with the tops off, windows down. Your chance to own one of what might be the rarest Pontiacs built, just needs paint, decals and a little TLC to be showroom fresh. Buyer responsible for transport or shipping. Car will drive if you want to (I drove it home to MS from Indiana when I purchased it). |
