Description of 1961 Pontiac Catalina

This unique model has been through a number of owners during its construction. Currently in primer awaiting final body prep and the new owner’s choice of color.

DRIVETRAIN: The engine is a 350 hp, 400 c.i. from a 1969 GTO. It has less than 200 miles on a full rebuild. Custom headers exit to new 2.5 inch dual exhaust. New aluminum radiator with electric fan. New fuel pump and DIE HARD battery. A new clutch and flywheel drive the Borg Warner T-10 4-speed with Indy style HURST shifter and boot. New heavy duty drive shaft and U-joints power the 3:26 post-traction rear axle. New transmission and engine mounts.

CHASIS-SUSPENSION: The suspension is completely rebuilt with new ball joints, tie rods, stabilizer bar links, steering components. New front and rear springs as well as shocks. New brake and fuel lines throughout. Full rebuild of brake systems. Rare 15 inch wheels with new tires.

INTERIOR: Minor floor repairs, new form fitted carpet, 1963 Gran Prix seats, including buckets. Excellent original headliner and visors as well as interior aluminum trim. Vent window gears replaced. Engine monitoring gauges install in dash. Interior is good for a driver but will need TLC for those wanting perfection; particularly front seat re-covering. After-market wiring kit installed but needs cleaning up under the dash.

BODY: Super solid floors, trunk and chassis. Originally in burgundy now in primer. Imperfections worked out, sheet metal skimmed and sanded ready for final prep and your choice of color. All trim is present but removed for paint. New windshield just installed. Stainless trim remains removed for paint. Side and rear glass original. Body has been nosed and decked with 1961 Bonneville taillights installed. Body panels have been adjusted and gapped.

Minimal effort will finish this rare beauty. Recent auction prices range from $38,000 to $60,000. Two vehicle are on the internet for $85,000 and $89,990 respectively. Losing storage so It must go.
