Description of 1990 Porsche 944

FIRST - WHY AM I SELLING? I am about to turn 71, nd according to my doctor - my back is shot! My cars are getting smaller to get in and out of, s I am getting larger and less flexible! I just sold my MG-B, my MG-TD, nd a couple weeks ago I sold my 1960 Alfa Giulietta Spider. Now it is time for my Porsche (to be followed by my Fiat Multipla and my Nash Healey),,,,, I am at that age where (I can't believe I am about to say this) - I NEED A BUICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG! (Doesn't mean I'll actually buy a Buick, but you get the idea)!

SECONDLY - PRICING: The Porsche 944 S-2 cabriolet was not a cheap car to buy - it carries the Porsche name, nd was and is a premium automobile - certainly an upper tier sports car. On the used car market they provide a lot of bang for the buck. I have put an opening bid that is, n my humble opinion, XTREMELY low for what you are getting. I did that for two reasons:

A. I've reached that point in life where driving the car just isn't the fun it use to be, o why keep it around,,,,,,,,,,,,

B. I would like a no muss, o fuss transaction, here the car gets bid, ells and moves on. I don't want to have to keep relisting it, r finding some other way to sell it. Ebay is convenient and quick!

So,my cars are goingand need to sell - and all are being priced to sell quickly (leaving you a little room to fix or upgrade something if you desire)! This one, ike the others that have already sold, is also being listed with NO RESERVE!

PAINT: GREAT color combination - looksFANTASTIC in person.

ENGINE: Runs REALLY, REALLY, nbsp;well,,,,,,,,,,

It appears that this car was a North Carolina car most of its life. It was originally sold by a Mercedes Benz dealer in Fayetteville, C. It did a brief stint in Massachusetts and then back to NC. At that point it seems the car was put into long term storage. (I've always believed that cars like Porsches, lfas, aguars, tc., on't sit well),,,, I may be right about that, ecause the previous owner (a Porsche repair shop) did a lot of work on the car when he bought it out of its storage. This is a list of most of the larger items he said he did:

- timing belt/tensioner/water pump and associated.

- cylinder head gasket

- fuel tank dipped, uel pump replaced along with sending unit/screen and filter

- oil change, ilter and plugs

- "total" brake job

- new a/c compressor, receiver drier and heater value, long with a/c charge

- some upholstery work

- new boot cover

- power steering pressure hose and alternator cooling duct hose, ower steering fluid

- clutch slave cylinder

- brake master cylinder

- new set of tires

- battery - I had a new one installed in July of this year.

Since all this work was done the car has less than 1,000 miles on it, nd could use someone who is going to drive it more frequently than my physical condition allows. It REALLY runs strong!

PAINT: It is impossible to talk about the paint on this car without commenting on how attractive this car is. The paint, hich is some sort of Porsche silverfish color, ooks GORGEOUS with the maroon/dark red top, oot cover and interior - SO much better than basic black! (PICTURE #14 -This picture showsthe nice contrast between the car body, nd the maroon/red cover). Not only that, ut the paint itself is in excellent condition. It really is a car that you just want to stand back and admire - the aesthetics of this car are absolutely first rate! (Yes, know I am the "seller" and may be a bit biased, ut really, t is a BEAUTIFUL car..................!!!)

ENGINE: No issues that I, or my mechanic, know of. It really does pull nicely thru the revs. For those of you who are unfamiliar with driving one of these cars, t is a bit cold natured at first, ill it warms up a bit. Once it warms up it really pulls very, ery well. Oil pressure remains high, ven when fully warm. (It also seems to be a bit "squealy" till it warms up - the power steering pump is a little noisy, tc. Once it warms up a bit all is quiet - in fact, have been surprised at how quiet the car is at idle).

TOP AND BOOT COVER: Basically new.

UPHOLSTERY: Shows a bit on "crinkly" on the seats, he look that you typically associate with leather seats that have a bit of age, specially on the seat bottoms. (7TH PICTURE: The 7th picture shows the "crinkly" that I am talking about). Just nice wear consistent with its usage. Door cars, ash, tc. are fine. (some of the pictures show the interior in the sunlight, nd some when it wasn't sunny. (6TH PICTURE: The 6th picture, t least on my monitor, ost accurately shows the actual color of the interior).

CHROME WHEELS: This is basically all the chrome on the car. They are chrome, ith the Porsche crest in the center. (SEE PICTURE #11).

KNOWN ISSUES: There are a couple more niggly things that a new owner may want to address if so inclined:

- heater control knobs - they popped off and are in the glove box

- sensors: it appears that the seat belt sensor and the air bag sensor may need replacing - the lights on the dash stay on.

- top motor: I'm not sure if it is working or not. Per guidance (very strong suggestion) from Ian at 944 online (THE place for 944 owners to go for 944 parts and/or advice) I converted the top to manual operation as soon as I got the car. Right after I bought the car I talked with Ian about 944s in general, his being the first one I had ever owned. Along with a bunch of other guidance/counsel he gave me, e made it clear that I should immediately convert the top to manual operation (which basically involves removing 4 bolts from the top mechanism), nd he sent me a diagram showing me how to do that. I did that. And, s he said, put the 4 bolts and the diagram in a baggie in the glove box for the next owner"............ which I also did - there they sit. To convert it back would take about 5 minutes! (I can send you apicture of the diagram he sent me that shows how easy a procedure this actually is).

(At this price you certainly can afford to addressany issues if you choose to do so).

IN SUMMARY: The body color, n combination with the color of the top/interior/boot cover, s just beautiful! You really need to see it. Not only that, ut the condition of the paint, op and boot are also excellent. The seats, s mentioned above, re consistent with the miles on the car, howing the "crinkling" that you see with nicely used leather seats. This is a beautifullooking, ood driving, eliable car - with a lot of rebuild/repair work done to it in the past year,,,,, hat just needs a couple easily resolved tweaks, hould you be so inclined. And, not to be understated, his car runs out like a PORSCHE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
