Description of 1964 Porsche 356 SUNROOF |
I first tried to buy this car when I saw it drive by over 40 years ago. It has everything I wanted in a 356 coupe: C model with it's fantastic disc brakes, rare factory electric Sunroof, bright red and a European model with it's incredible heater system and better working (and looking) lights.I got another chance five years ago and quickly bought it. After I first saw the car it was in dry storage for 40 years. Sold new at thePetermaxMüller Porsche Dealershipin Hanover, Germany in August so it is a very late 1964 model. Numbers matching engine, transaxle, doors, hood and deck lid. The factory did install the replacement engine in 1970, which is noted on the Kardex and COA too. Came to US in early 70's. Still has all of it's Euro delivery equipment: Heater system, headlights, turn signals, rear reflectors, gauges and radio. Rotisserie metal restoration and repaint. Stripped to bare metal and all rust properly repaired. The pans just had a few pin holes, but they were weak so they were replaced along with the longitudinals. Repainted original Glasurit, single stage Signal Red. Great gaps through-out. Engine and transaxle have less than 500 miles on full rebuilds including carbs and fuel pump. Rebuilt generator and starter. Complete new brake system with re-plated & rebuilt original calipers, new brake lines, rotors and master cylinder. Tie-rod ends are all new. New Koni shocks all around. Four wheel alignment by Rothsport so it drives great at all speeds. One of a handful of 356s that I am truly comfortable driving over 90 mph. All five chrome wheels re-plated by Boltons. Four are original 6/64 KPZ, fifth is KPZ 10/64. Very nice, enameled crest hubcaps. Original, regular crest caps come with it too. Sunroof motor rebuilt with new armature and field windings. New Siglia windshield, other glass all original with new rubber seals. All lights, horns, windshield wipers (NOS arms and blades) & washer work great. Original gauges are in excellent shape and work well except the clock which works occasionally. Correct Blaupunkt Berlin green dial radio sounds great with new speakers in the original mounts with the original covers. Locks work fine including gear shift lock and glove box lock with original keys. Has original jack, owners manual and partial tool kit. Original dash pad is in excellent shape as are the original door panels. The passengers seat is in excellent condition, but the drivers seat has a couple holes in the center vinyl on the base. (Something in someones pocket long ago?) I have new, correct, OEM type seat upholstery that comes with it but I prefer the look and feel of the originals so I never had them installed. Car has factory headrest for passenger side, (not shown in photos). New headliner and correct square weave carpets. New Coco mats as listed in Kardex and COA. The 356 body is incredible in red so it is no wonder that so many got painted that color in 60's-80's. Happily this one didn't have a color change to get there. I've driven Porsches for over 40 years, mostly 356's, but I'm constantly amazed by how much attention this car gets. No matter where I go there is usually someone taking a picture and/or asking me about it. Many more pictures available on request. If you wish to have the car inspected do so before bidding. It is a wonderful car, but I am not a dealer and it is sold in "As Is" condition with no warranty, express or implied. LAST "BUYER" WAS BOGUS - no contact, wrong phone number and address on file with eBay. Waste of everyones time - Please don't bid unless you are serious about buying thus great car! |
