Description of 1983 Porsche 944

You wouldn't be looking at eBay listings of 944s for sale unless you already knew about these great little cars, so I won't bore you with the history of the make/model. You can look that up elsewhere, if you don't already have it committed to memory.
These are simply great cars. Timeless. Classic. Designed for people who like to drive and "feel" the road pass beneath them. They are not sophisticated, by modern standards, but were way ahead of their time when introduced.
There are two kinds of pre-owned 944s: 1) those ridden hard and put away wet, with little (if any) proper care and feeding; fraught with problems, or 2) clean, well-maintained and cared for Classics that are absolute joys to drive.
This 944 was imported to a dealership in Texas, but sold new to a California owner. There it stayed for many years before a Colorado Collector stored it away (for 7 years) in his 24-car (!) garage. That's where my son found it for sale (to make room for a new acquisition) and picked it up for a bargain price.
I flew from Milwaukee to Denver and drove it home, then started sorting through all of the rubber bits (belts, hoses, seals, etc.), replacing key components (water pump, radiator, ball bearing sets, shocks, etc.) and rebuilding others (brake calipers, control arms, odometer).
My job with the Air Force takes me to military installations all over the Midwest, so I use the Porsche for what it was built to do - - hit the road and cruise long distances. This economical sports car gets great Smiles per Gallon (SPG)!
[The 944 is perfectly balanced, so it is also a great little competition car. I have been active in SCCA Solo events since 1970, so entering the 944 in sanctioned autocross competition is great fun. I encourgae you to try it, if you haven't already!]
The car has never been in snow, but I now see plenty of rain (it lead a sheltered life before I purchased it). I drive several thousand miles each year - - sometimes each month - - but when I bring it home, it is always given a thorough going over, to include detailed cleaning of the undercarriage (see photos).
I drive a Previa All-Trac in the Winter months, so the 944 stays at home, toasty and dry in the garage. Even if it were ever exposed to road salt, the galvanized steel construction would resist corrosion. Every fastener I have ever touched works just like the day the car was built. The hardware quality is amazing!
You will be hard-pressed to find a more solid, straight (never wrecked), rust-free, all-original example of a 944 for sale in America. I take care of this one the way Germans take car of their cars (I lived in Deutschland for +3 years, so I know)! Those are my old DE plates on the back, displayed in my "Nurburgring" license frame (frame included in the sale).
Also included in the sale is a small collection of preventive maintenance and new spare parts, including an extra set of OEM cookie cutter wheels. The Kuhmos were recently mounted and have 95% of their tread remaining. Perfectly aligned. Brakes were recently updated, as well. Oil, filter and coolant all recently replaced.
I have already placed a deposit on a 10-year-old, low-miles Porsche Cayman, so now I, too, need to make room in our (2-car) garage. On-street overnight parking is forbidden in our neighborhood, so it is with great sadness that I must part with my beloved 944. If I had the extra room, you would not now be reading this...
My loss will be your gain, I am confident.
Please do not hesitate to ask questions. I'll get back to you ASAP with a response.
