Description of 1988 Porsche 928

I’ve owned this 928 for 2 years as my daily driver and have only put 6,499 miles on it - always garaged. Service records recent and going back to 2004 and CarFax report (no accidents) are included with the sale. Perfect clear Title ready to transfer. I love this car and it has a timeless style which is still so far ahead of its time - a lot of car for the money. I’m only selling because my young children no longer fit in the backseats and I had to buy a Cayenne.

Over the past two years, I have methodically tried to sort out any issues and have spent about $11,000+ on preventative maintenance and repairs (see partial list below but call me with any specific questions) – again, all receipts go to the buyer. I also want to be honest about what doesn't work and what you may decide the car still needs that I have not gotten to (see below details). I include the original window sticker with the car that shows an MSRP of $74,000+ when the car was new. I think these cars are so undervalued and will only appreciate in the future. Its a blast to drive.

Engine/Transmission: The 316 HP 32 Valve V-8 engine runs strong and powerful… good acceleration and fast, but as a GT (grand tourer), it really comes into its own at speeds of 70 MPH and up… Top speed is claimed to be 164 from the factory.. I took it once to 120 and it felt very stable and secure (but speeding was never my thing). The car takes Mobil 1 synthetic with a recommended change every 7,000 miles. I’ve put exactly 6,449 miles since it was last changed, so its probably due now. The registration expired so I am not driving it and its back in the garage - again I've got a Cayenne as my daily. The car has not burned oil since I’ve owned it. The automatic transmission shifts smooth and clean. There are no strange sounds from the drivetrain and No leaks under the car.

Interior: The power seats and windows work as they should on both sides. The sunroof opens and closes and is great on summer days. The Air Condition system was re-charged and tested although I have never used it. There is an aftermarket CD player, AM/FM radio with a removable dashplate. The steering column on 928’s adjusts up and down with the entire instrument panel which is very cool. I am 6 foot 6 and have plenty of legroom driving this car.

Undercarriage: When I first bought the car my technician marveled at how clean it was underneath and it looked as though it was well cared for.

Service Work in the last 6,000 miles with All New parts:

-Timing Belt, Water Pump and Thermostat Change with idlers and rollers

- Cam Belts

- Valve covers and gaskets

- Manifold gaskets

- Radiator, oil and all hoses

- Ignition wires and spark plugs

- Battery

- Fuel pump and filter

- Sensors (02, Coolant Temp and Knock sensors)

- Transistor reference sensor and 40 amp relay

- Needs:

- Brakes are in good condition and work perfectly, but Anti-Lock Braking system (ABS) does not work. A sensor lights up on the instrument panel that reads (ABS). This system has Not been necessary and does not affect normal braking in dry conditions (the owner’s manual states the same that ABS is not necessary and normal braking function is not affected). Fixing this may make a difference in wet or slippery conditions which I always avoided.

The Odometer reads 56,120 and does not register new mileage as it stopped working. I believe mileage is 62,769 based on the CarFax registration renewals over the years (included) and the fact that I kept meticulous daily mileage logs to record every mile I put on the car (6,449 miles in two years of ownership). I include the mileage logs with the sale.

- All gauges work properly except the digital clock and the fuel pressure gauge which seems stuck in place - again, the car has not burned oil and oil pressure is normal

- Every four or five weeks or so, in our hotter climate of Idaho, a “belt tension” light comes on only on hot summer days. My foreign technician (actually from Stuttgart) checked this and all belts are in fact tight and adjusted correctly, so the sensor apparently lights up for an unknown reason - a fuse maybe. If the car is shut off and re-started, the light goes out and won’t come on again for several more weeks, so this has not been a problem, but is a mystery.

- After several days of not driving the car, the battery will drain. The Alternator works perfectly and keeps the battery charged if you drive the car every day or so, but if the car is not driven for 4 or 5 days, it will not have enough cranking power to start and you will have to jump it. I solved this by plugging the car into a battery tender when I’m not using it, which I include with the sale.

- The paint on the hood shows its age with imperfections under the clear coat (see photo) NOTE: The photos show raindrops on the car as it started to sprinkle when I took the shots and these are Not the imperfections. There are small paint touch ups on the front bumper/nose that are not perfect. All these show up-close only, but not noticeable from five feet away. There are no major dents or scratches, but remember this is the original black paint from the factory on a 28 year old car.

- The rims have been scuffed in places next to the tire by a prior owner.. again, no physical damage that affects performance or safety, just scuffed here and there. They still look good from a short distance.
