Description of 1957 Porsche 356 Speedster |
||||||||||||
Porsche Speedster....the name alone says it all. Modern recreations by Beck, CMC and others combine the classic look with a more accessible price point. This car is based on the best mass produced chassis available - the Volkswagen Type One with Independent Rear Suspension ( IRS)While substantially the same design as the original Speedster, the original with Swing Axle rear suspension can very easily go into oversteer (tail swing) -- while the "redesign" IRS more closely follows Porsche 911 design with much greater cornering power and stability. Both original and recreation Speedsters share a chassis design that to this day is amazing. A large Tubular chassis member having load attachmentsfront and rear, with outboard floor pan perimeter elements make for a rigid and lightweight design. Engine choices in Recreationshave ho limit- stock Volkswagen engines have similar performance to the Original - yet with more displacement and carburation can easily outperform an Original. The vehicle for sale here is a CMC produced body structure mated to a 1969 registered Special Construction Volkswagen Type One chassis. The car is accident free, with a lot of work already performed to date.It is a 1600cc or larger (we believe the engine is larger-possibly 1849-due to the tremendous amount power) dual port engine with dual carbs. The fuel tank was removed prior to repainting. The car ran extremely well and very fast! The clutch felt great and the steering and suspension were tight on our initial test drive. The gas tank needs to be re-installed in order for it to run. The battery is good and the engine turns over freely. The running gear is complete, as well as headlights tail lights etc already mounted and wired. Please refer to the photos as to components that come with the car -- the windshield is missing but is available from a number of sources. The grille, windshield frame/trim, thresholdmoldings and hood ornament have been polished and wrapped. We also have the seats that came with the car which will be included in the sale. The car was professionally repainted in high quality gorgeous (Porsche Silver) two stage finish . It looks amazing! The fiberglass had no cracks-needing zero body work, making it the perfect candidate to restore. The chassis and floors are a+. The Fuchs style wheels look great on the car -- the wide stance of the car will certainly generate a LOT of cornering force. This is a great looking car and is almost ready to be enjoyed! A little sweat equity and you will have yourself a really cool speedster re-creation.
