Description of 1952 Porsche 356 ORIGINAL RARE FACTORY BLACK ON TAN |
Offered for sale, from KURT TANNER MOTORCARS, is this desirable and early 356 Pre-A Coupe for restoration. This car was completed at the factory on December 10, 1952 in the exceedingly rare color of Black exterior with a believed tan corduroy interior. This car was purchased by us 6 months ago from it's long term owner of the last 53 years (from 1965). The car is believed to be complete minus the bumper set and 4 interior trim rails. The car retains it's 5 original date coded wheels (4/52) and the body panels are believed to be the original ones. When the previous owner was a young man and living in New York at the time, the Porsche was purchased from the Chicago, Illinois area. The car was purchased with the engine out of the car, but unfortunately when the car arrived in New York, the original unit was missing/stolen. A replacement 1500 engine was sourced as a mid-1953 year model, as that's the closest 1500 unit to his year model he could find, and the car has lived with that engine ever since... At that point, the car received some cosmetic work and was painted it's current shade of Meissen Blue, and the original tan interior dyed red.The body on this car is actually quite decent for it's age and from being on the East Coast, most likely a Hoffman delivered car. There is some repairable damage to the front and rear. The doors close very well and fit the car beautifully. The original pan appears quite solid overall but is getting thin under the driver's seat area and in a few corners. The windshield has been replaced, the rest of the glass is original. The car's interior appears to be the original tan corduroy that was dyed red at one point. The dashboard is believed to still be the original black paintwork. The car retains it's correct and important gauges, knobs, switches, etc.The car's 1500 engine turns easily by hand and may even run with some work. The carburetors/air cleaners have been removed but are present. The believed original gearbox #338H1 is included with the car and pictured. The current unit fitted is from a VW transporter, which is borrowing the original input shaft.Overall, this 1952 Porsche 356 Pre-A Coupe is a scarce offering, as the 1952 year model was a very low production year for Porsche, and has been under the same ownership for the past 53 years. This car is a factory Black car as certified by it's COA. This essentially complete and solid 356 will make a fantastic car once finished in these great colors, and now awaits it's next enthusiast owner and an exquisite restoration.
